Mike111I have just repaired my driver side window regulator and noticed that the auto down button on the window does not shut off when pressed unless I press the up button on the window. Does anyone know how the auto down button works so I know what to replace or look at to fix this problem? Is it just replacing the switch to fix it?

Thanks,
Mike

catfishif i understand your question,it is auto down all tthe way till the glass reaches bottom.the only way to stop it is to do what youre doing.thats normal.it's working properly.

Marty UsherIf the switch is bad you can get a cheap replacement at any junkyard as the window switch is the same as the ones in late 90's early 2000's Ram pick ups. I replaces mine for less than $10.00
dbudnerIt does sound like it works, as Catfish said. A new switch is $75 as an fyi.
BradleyGIf I understand the question. When I open the window with the auto down.. Mine goes all the way down and stops (The motor stops when it reaches bottom). The motor should not keep running trying to put the window down after it reaches the all the way down position.

There may be a limit switch that trips when the window reaches bottom.

THIS IS ALL JUST A GUESS ON MY PART. AS I UNDERSTAND YOUR QUESTION.

catfishi think he doesnt realize that its auto down all the way to the bottom.to stop part way,you just reverse, tap the button for up. and it will stop.he may think when you release button its suppose to stop.jmo

Mike111Thanks for the replies. I understand that when the auto down is pushed the window will go all the way to the bottom unless you stop it by pressing the up button, but what I was asking is when it gets all the way to the bottom does it stop on its own? Mine does not, it will keep clicking till I push the button up. I did not see a micro switch when I had the window apart. The window switch did get pretty wet last July 4th in a parade cause of the rain and because the window would not work. Also I noticed when I had the window regulator apart that there is another plastic piece that is wearing and will eventually break. It is the piece that screws onto the spring part of the cable. This piece rides up and down in a tube like part of the window bracket and mine was worn pretty bad. It has not broke yet but will someday. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this part wearing?
catfishsounds like the switch.have had mine apart many times, only parts that move up and down is the frt and rr,guides that move in the black steel track.the only wear marks that you will see are on those frt and rr vertical tracks thats normal, make sure you regrease those tracks.the white plastic cable outer is usually what breaks and can be repaired.if you want to keep it from breaking, use the kraut fix on the reg before reinstall.do a search for window reg and put in kraut,it will come up.

Mike111The switch is what I thought it would be but I was hoping someone else may have had a similar problem and knew for sure. As for the regulator, the part I was talking about rides up and down in the track. How I noticed this part wearing is instead of cutting a plastic tube and clamping in on the cable like Kraut did in his repair. I unbent the two metal tabs on the track then unscrewed the screws to the motor and slid the track off the cable. I then used a 3/8" inside diameter plastic water line and cut it to length and slid it over the original tube where the break in the original tube was. I was able to do this because the original plastic had broken on both sides of the motor. I then slide the cable back threw the original tube and the new tube that I put over the old and then bent the tabs back down. I caution you to be careful if you do it this way because there is a risk of breaking the tabs off. I hope you can understand this I sometimes have trouble explaining things. Just ask my wife...
catfishsounds like when the window reaches bottom, you hear a continuous clicking,is that correct,if so it has to be the switch.theres no way the motor can continue to run when all the way dow.this is the first time ive heard of one clicking.if the motor continued to run,not stop it would break the reg.when it gets to the bottom it does stopm on its own.i,m assunimg the clicking noise is coming from inside the dr.when its clicking put your hand on top of switch, you may be able to feel it click.when it goes all the way to the bottom, the switch actually stops the motor.is the clicking sound coming from the dr.or somwhere else.a relay would make a clicking sound, but thats way far away from the dr.
