ed monahan	Peter, I was amazed that most Australians thought Australia was much larger than the U. S. and most Americans thought the U S was much larger than Australia. I explained to a guy in Sydney that I lived in Ohio, about 1/4 in from the East and just above half way north to south. His reaction was, "Oh, you live in the desert". I guess he thought all countries had an "outback". Beautiful country. I only got to see Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef areas.
Kroooozer	There are some facts and figures that there are something like 90% of the population live within 100klms of the coastline...not sure of exact percentage but know its high...I have driven through the centre to Alice Springs and all you see is termite mounds and road kill all day(kangaroos 1,000's, cows & even a camel)I liken it to driving through Arizona deserts.
