MIKE GATLINA/C was working fine this morning then quit this afternoon. Fan speed control works but no light illuminates when A/C button is engaged. Fuse in drivers side dash is fine as is fuse in the block behind driver side panel. There is no sound at the compressor indicating that it is trying to engage. I would love to hear your ideas.

Failed power supply to the AC clutch caused by a blown fuse, bad pressure control switch, dash control module or a broken circuit wire.

also check all electrical plugs that connect to sensors on ac lines. one may have come loose.

also by this you should check fuse 4,10,19 under dash, left panel. and also fuse 2 behind side panel under hood:

Tony GoertzHi Mike !!! Back in MI you wouldn't need A/C now !

If you are low on Freon the system will not come on.
Pressure sensor ( Hi & Low pressure) is located on small a/c line between a/c rad and canister. Passenger side. Make sure that the cable is connected.
After market Freon top up kits come with a gauge to check pressure and are not expensive.
Any parts store will have them.

Doubt its a Freon related issue unless a refrigerant line broke,,,in that case you most likely would see where it leaked due to the refrigerant 'oil' sprayed onto surrounding areas. The exception would be if a leak is at or near the evaporator coil in the dash.

mslc10Mike says A/C light does not come on when compressor button is pressed leads me to believe it is a power, fuse, relay issue. I would pull the fuses listed above and re-insert them to see if they will reset the BCM that controls the compressor output.If you have a volt meter I would measure voltage to ground on both sides of fuse 2 in power distribution center behind left side panel.

TomcalTry using the front defrost mode with temp control knob at max cool and fan in high speed.

In many Chrysler products of that era this forces A/C on and overrides other sensors and controls.

In many cases the High/Low pressure sensor fails. Sensor can be replaced without losing Freon.

MIKE GATLINWe are still on the road so I haven't been able to try everyone's ideas. Yesterday I discovered Tomcal's thought. Top was up and it was raining like hell so I turned defroster on. Before I could adjust it to warm, cold air came blasting out and that was a surprise.
Where in the system is the pressure sensor? Seems like it must be on the compressor. I will post the resolution when I get it figured out.

The A/C pressure transducer switch is located behind the passenger side removable panel. Looks to be close to the firewall. The unit receives a 5 volt signal from the Powertrain Control Module which reads the transducer signal and powers on the compressor clutch thru it's relay.

There is a wiring harness connected on it's end.

Mike, Glad you had a chance to try the defroster trick.

Replace A/C pressure sensor and your good to go. You will not lose any Freon when replacing, only a very brief puff of no significance.

BE SURE TO INSTALL WITH A NEW O-RING.

Sensor is located under the A/C compressor and slightly to the right/front of PCM computer on the smaller aluminum A/C line where it makes a "Tee. 14mm deep socket or open end/combo wrench. Three wires on connector. Violet/White tracer, Dark Blue, Black/Light Blue tracer.

One last thought, try removing and reinstall sensor connector a few time to clean contacts. It could be just some oxidation on connector and not the sensor. You may have to fiddle around with the connector locking mechanize to get it off.

MIKE GATLINA/C problem is resolved. I had no light in the a/c button and no a/c as a result. The button itself seemed suspect so I was able to replace the hvac control assembly (really nothing serviceable in it except bezel and knobs) and it did the trick. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the solution.
