Tony Goertz	For starters - Can be bad temp sensor in engine or transmission. Either will cause computer to turn on fans. Also a bad (missing) high speed fan relay or fuse will cause low speed fan to come on immediately. I'd check the fuses and relays first.

CAT-A-TONIC	Coolant temp sensors can go bad but not likely. There's a property inside them that connects the two sides of the wires together. This property create resistance between the two sides of the wires up to where it's connected by the plastic plug in. This property is calibrated so that when coolants mostly cold there's the most resistance and least amount of voltage that gets through. when engine is warming up resistance drops and once within range, the amount of voltage that is allowed through will trigger a signal to the relay and presto, on come the fans. Once the engine cools down via the fans(s), resistance increases and they turn off. It continues this cycle as the engine is running. I would look at the fan relays first.
jimvbell	The code is P0482.. What is the best way to test the relays?
Tomcal	First, Check to make sure you don't have A/C turned on. This will turn on fan instantly. Next, try Swapping high speed fan relay with low speed relay and see what happens. This will determine if it's a relay problem or something else. Fuses and Relays are in the Power Distribution Center( PDC) located under hood on divers side. Label on inside cover of PDC shows locations. To check the actually relay you will need a Multi-meter to measures continuity, resistance and voltage. Try relay swap and let us know results.

Tomcal	All right. That rules out it being a relay failure. Let me hit the schematic in service manual tonight. I'll be back in touch after a little research.

Tomcal	OK, I've looked at the schematics for cooling fan circuit. Basically you have two sensors that control fan. One is coolant temperature sensor and the other A/C Pressure Transducer. Both sensors are routed to PCM (Powertrain Control Module) which then sends signal to fan speed relays to turn fan on. One of these sensors is possibly defective, or the PCM is defective (lets not go there on PCM) or there could be a short somewhere in the wiring. To test you would need to disconnect wire plug on each sensor, one at a time to see which is causing the problem. Access to A/C pressure transducer is by removing passenger side, side panel. Look for it by A/C lines near firewall. Coolant sensor is located below/near upper radiator hose where it connects to engine. (so manual says) I did a quick look and could not locate it. Perhaps another member could help with location. So... remove coolant temperature sensor connector and see what happens. Replace connector, then do the same for A/C sensor. BTW... check the temperature gauge and see if it's functioning. Is it bottomed out when cold, or is it reading something cold? Tomcal	When you have a chance, the wiring color codes for sensors are as follows; A/C Pressure Transducer sensor is three (3) wires; Violet with white tracer Dark Blue Black with Light Blue tracer Coolant Temp. sensor, two (2) wires; Tan with Black tracer Black with Light Blue tracer Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.
