1st Prowler Ever	Hello all! I had recently purchased my first Prowler. It is a completely different car than I've ever had. I have always owned big cars. Chrysler Imperials were around this household for many years. Just sold my 1961 2 door, and my 1965 convertible that I have owned for 32 years! I am trying to get used to the shrill, hard ride of this Prowler. It is definitely a different experience-so is the attention that the car gets! I do most of my own repairs on my cars, and I'll have questions on parts and advice I am sure. I had just done the timing belt kit change last night and all went well. My car is a 9,000 mile one that had the original belts and all. The next thing of concern are the lower ball joints. Has anyone 'recently' had these done under the Chrysler Corp. recall notice? I had talked to a local Chrysler service rep, and he seemed reluctant being over a 12 year recall? I even chatted online with a Chrysler Fiat rep and he said it would have been up to a previous owner to take care of this. Even though this is a critical safety defect. Finally, he said a flat out 'no'. It would be up to a Chrysler service department to do these or not. Just asking for anyone else experience with this. My son and I will be attending the Prowler event this summer. Also, Chryslers at Carlisle. We will get a chance to meet some of you. Looking forward to the drive's' there from Ohio. DGCARMA	Take the recall notice in and remind them it is a safety recall and is required to be completed by the manufacturer if the recall has yet to be performed on the vehicle. Being a safety recall they should have had to report that to the government and there should be no time limits. If they still refuse or are hesitant,ask for their names and positions. Then ask who the actual company rep is they deal with. Usually they will have a number you can call. If not call the help number for fiat of a website. Explain the recall and explain he refusal to perform the recall by the dealer. I would be surprised if Fiat refuses, if the recall has yet to be performed on your vehicle(changing owner hands does not relieve the responsibility). If they do refuse, file the complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and be as specific as possible with names, positions, and numbers of individuals you contacted. Then at that point you wait on the NHTSA but I doubt you will get that far.
mslc10	Mine already had the recall done when I bought it. I took it in last year because of a torn boot on the ball joint. I paid $200 for the joint replacement . They would not honor the recall again being that it was done years ago.

padroo	It doesn't matter who owned the car and yes they should have had it done, the recall is on the car not on the person. Welcome to the POA, hope to meet you in June.
WildCat	Check the ball joint to see if it was changed Believe the replacement had an X at the end of the number Just go ahead and get the chrome front end from Gary E and have new lower ball joints in really nice shiney pieces......... LOL Definitely in a different class than an Imperial, get use to the ride and enjoy the miles of smiles ------------------ Larry & Sue Mayes

padroo	If your Prowler has the original tires they are old hard run flats and the sidewall has no give. Most people put normal car tires on their Prowler for improved ride. The front sway bar is way too stiff and most people install the Larry Lord Wonder Bar which is a smaller unit that let's the Prowler frond end move a little also softening the ride.

TucsonJer	Welcome to the POA and one of the best and most helpful forums on the net. When I bought my Prowler I took it to the dealership here in Tucson and they pulled up the records and let me know that the ball joint recall had been done. I ask them if they failed again would they replace them again. The answer was a definite no. They said they were required to fix them but only once. If you ever have any question about this incredible automobile this is where to come for the information you need. Hope to meet you in June. Jer

Are the washers supposed to be put on to act as a surface that doesn't twist ( and tear) the boot?
robin	The other nuts are for the upper ball joint. I think when they did the recall they always assumed everyone would take the complete assembly apart .So they added new nuts for the upper ball joint. Not sure about the washers I can't remember if there is a washer I the upper ball joint......they are one time use nuts. robin
1st Prowler Ever	Thanks for the advice on these joints. So, they are available with the Mopar number still? I will have to contact my local Chrysler dealer here to see what can be done for this recall deal. I looked, no "x" after the number on mine. Do these joints wear out-or do they just snap in two unexpectedly while driving? Wow, I know what you mean on the chrome front end deal. Really makes the look of the car "pop" even more. Yes, looking forward to meeting you all at the events this summer. The Prowler cruise to the main event should be really cool. Rob, 99 red/purple candy.

robin	Use the site padroo or the one I posted at the top. enter your vin and it will tell you if it has been done... If you say there is no x then it might be possible yours were not done. Usually when they snap is when turning the wheel stationary. Pulling out of a parking spot for example. I don't recall anyone saying there's fail during a drive. On the other hand some Chrysler dealers will not sell the kit to customers over the counter. I have a set if you need them or Gary E can help you out. but please do the vin check first..robin
CAT-A-TONIC	The replacement BJ's do have a stem modification but they are not a direct fix. They start the clock over until another replacement will be necessary. Mileage, terrain and yes the boots all contribute to BJ problems. Chrysler's TSB only refers to boot problems as the cause. As for the BJ kits. You can see from the pictures that two upper BJ and tie rod nut washers have some pretty aggressive teeth on the mating surface. That of course will chew right into the aluminum steering knuckles when torqued in place. I reused my originals that don't have this feature and they are fine. Also the washers that are in the kits are not originally used from the factory. Not in the service manual either. They were supposed to go on the bottom BJ's. I did not use them either.
CAT-A-TONIC	One other items for your info. The factory TSB for this fix has a couple of glaring errors that were copied from the factory service manual. Who ever does the replacement NEEDS to be aware of them. There's a lot on info on this site regarding this whole BJ issue.
