Finally got around to replace the Crap Infinity Drivers Door Spkr 6.5 in.
Replaced with JBL GX628 , 2.3 OHMS , 180W, Peak 60 wrms
Retrofited the Spkr Connector Pins so can use the same door Molex f/m connector .

I'm not so sure I'd refer to the original speakers as crap. They were what they were at that time, and they sounded pretty darn good! The foam rings can be replaced and will sound good as new. BUT.....like you, I asked myself, do I replace/fix the originals or do I replace them with something a bit more up to date. T went with a replacement Infinity 2 way. It was close to the factory ohm as well.

Paper Cones will not last , the foam disintegrated 1st . Yes my oem skpr still worked but if you cranked it up will crackle . a 3 ohm will work with whatever stock you left in is ok , but if you changed to 5 ohm or more without changong the rest is counter productive ...jmo

I've just replaced my door speakers with JBL Club 6520 speakers. The door speakers had already been replaced once, so weren't in bad shape. I replaced them to match the JBL Club 322F speakers I put in the IP and in the rear bulkhead. The subwoofer was still in good condition, so it stayed. Not easy to find a good new subwoofer that will fit in the available space. The bulkhead mounting is quite shallow and most subwoofers are very large. The IP mount is also quite shallow and the new speakers do touch the body panel underneath the IP. I installed with spacers under the speakers, so speakers don't seal to the panel, but there is sufficient clearance to the top pad still. All these are 3ohm so reasonably matched to the system.
