Here is a pic of inside the wheel I doctored up. The pealing was very bad from the spokes out to the first lip. Stripped the chrome and painted the strip.

Here is a pic of the 20 year old runflat. In very good condition, no cracking or dry rot and still very plyable,,, as plyable as a run flat is anyway. Tire guy said these were the best looking 20 year old tires he has seen in a while. He also said he would not hesitate to keep running them. Not saying everyone else's should be fine but this is what I have to report back.

Nice looking matching tires - how much did they cost - let us know how they feel - nice job on the inside barrel - how to you finish these off - what grit of sandpaper or emery cloth did you use - what paint did you use because it looks very nice in the photo. did you clear coat the paint after.
Looks great!

Good looking tires and nice job on the rim. I need to do this to my rims also on the 99, but never seem to get around to it.
Thanks for posting pictures of old and new. I'm still running the run flats on both of mine and see no sign of dry rot or cracking.

I drove to South Bend Indiana to the Tire Rack warehouse and had 4 tires mounted and got my tire fix for the year.

500,000 square feet of tire smell.

I had a set of Nittos installed last week at NTB. They were $740 installed and balanced. Put my OEM run flats w 30k on them, in the purple trailer and brought them home. They look perfect and are not cracking at all. I just felt they were unsafe.

$700 mounted. Used a 4 1/2" grinder with sanding disks. 36 to strip the chrome off then 180. After that all hand work to 300. Do not bare down hard on the saint disks, be patient. Used Rustoleum rattle can silver. Tried using clear but it started running, tried thin coats but no luck. The nozzle on the can let's to much clear by. Paint is ok but clear no go. I am letting them sit and going to try to spray some clear at some point. If you do it to soon it crinkles like a orange,,lifts. Will do a follow up when done.

Actually did it 2 years ago but had to redue it because I had gone around the weights. Before I had the new tires mounted I took the weights off and stripped those areas of the chrome. So I repainted the complete strips again. Had the tires mounted, they put new weights and now I will clear over the paint and weights.

I felt the same way. Not a fan of running on 20 year old tires. Was very surprised at the great condition when removed. I guess it comes down to were the car is kept. Obviously if it is kept outdoors and in the sun more than others, I could see more of a problem. Sometimes there is no ryme or reason. I will say in my opinion it sure is a nice looking agresive tire. Can't wait to see how the ride is.

I think the best part is going to be not feeling the Fred Flintstone square tire feel on the first ride of the season. I think I might start blocking it on the lift in the winter anyway.

Does anyone put there Kat on blocks if not being used for a long perid of time???

Yes - I purchased the flat stoppers and have the cat on those. Can`t comment on results because this is my first year with the cat and first year ever blocking tires to avoid flat spots. I will get a taste of the results in the next 6 weeks or so. I had trouble getting up on the flat stoppers because they slid around on the smooth concrete garage floors so in the end I jacked the car up and positioned them exactly and lowered the car onto them. Bit of a pain - several reviews said they had problems with the slippage trying to drive the car on - but hey after I decided there a better way jacking the car up only took 5 minutes.

Can you post a pic of the Nitto on your prowler? How do they look? I currently have Dunlop SP9000 and considering the Nitto's. I like the Dunlop stance on the rear tire the sidewall bungles out unlike the Goodyear runflats.
