In shopping for lower ball joints I ran across two options on Ebay. One was a set from Rare Parts the other was from The Prowler Store. In looking at the pictures it is apparent these have different looking boots. The boot retainer in Rare parts appears to be built in the lower flange of the boot, in The Prowler Store the retainer is a separate metal clip. Since the whole recall issue on these lower ball joints stemmed from poor joint seal and lubrication retention these boot seals peak my interest. In seeking to make my life more difficult I thought I'd investigate what if anything this means to me.I called both outfits up to ask if for some reason one would need to replace the boot if they were available separately (realizing of course they only fit that particular ball joint). Rare Parts said nope ( you got to buy a new joint), The prowler Store Said yes they are available but you got to call them as they are not listed. I'm sure they are both fine good rubber parts that will last for the life of the ball joint as both are of course greasable. Other than that The prowler Store indicates The joints are coated with a "proprietary coating" but that could be mayonnaise for all we know. After that keen investigative work I'm here to ask if anyone has had any adverse experience with either of these or observations to share regarding installation or boot installation and function with any of these two ball joints. See attached photos. I'll be doing the work myself and have access to any and all the tools typical for this replacement. Thank you for your consideration. |

Buy direct from Rare Parts. I will never spend a nickel with the P store. I would venture a guess that they contacted Rare Parts and asked them to put some type of cheap finish on the stock b joints so they could have a new improved version that they could sell at a higher price. The P store doesn't produce anything. They steal a design and "improve" it and jack up the price. They bought a Prowler trailer hitch on eBay, (waaaaay back), ran the price up to about $900, measured everything, then complained to eBay that it was defective or used and sent it back. The seller had to refund the $ plus shipping both ways. They could then sell a pathic version of the hitch. They stole the center cap repair fix that Dick Linnemann came up with. Mud flaps and on and on. Do a search here on POA about their antics. My Candy car was the test mule for the ball joinrs from Rare Parts. |

I agree with Ed stay away from the P store. If Rare parts is out of stock try this site http://fcrcmachine.com/rare-parts-front-lower-ball-joint-1997-2002-plymouth-chrysler-prowler-13768/ [ |
