Question: Can the timing belt be off a tooth or two and not cause a code in the code reader?
REASON FOR QUESTION: A reputable shop changed my timing belt and the other related parts which I provided. The car runs fine but it sounds different and not as responsive. Difference is : The exhaust sounds more muffled/restricted (I have driven this Prowler for 100,000 miles and I can tell that the exhaust tone is not the same as before) and not as responsive to full throttle applications.
The shop owner told me that IF the timing belt was off a tooth or two, it would throw a code.
What should the static timing be at idle? My scanner can show me what it is. Is there a way to know the belt is installed correctly without taking the timing cover off the engine? Any suggestions? Thank you.

If the Left Side (Drivers Side) cam were off that would show a code and would also show cam/crank synchronization as No.

The Right side cam (Pass side) is NOT monitored by the cam sensor and could be off a tooth or two with symptoms as you describe.

Only way to verify is visually inspect timing marks.
