My passenger door window regulator quit the other day. The window is halfway down. Is there any way I can get the window down until I get a chance to change regulator? |

You can usually pull up on front or back of window while pushing the button to make it go up or down. It tends to get crooked in the track when it breaks. |

This is weird...I was just going to post on here about my window regulator quitting last night. I got the glass back in place by pushing the button and pulling slightly an the glass. I dont mean to hijack this thread but...who has the best repair kit for this? I did some research late last night and I see there is a plastic cable involved that usually cracks. I then saw repair kits made of metal that we can buy. Are these the best option? Thanks!

Thanks for info about getting glass down. I got it up by pulling and pressing button but dont know if it will go down. I will try it. As far as the questions about the repair kit: I reccomend you dont try it. Buy a new regulator. When my driver door regulator quit a few years ago I tried repairing it as reccomended with fibreglas cloth and resin and clamps. A big job but a failure. If you get that cable too stiff it wont bend to go in place. Forget trying to save money and buy a new regulator. These regulators are probably the Prowlers weakest link. |

Georgieboy when you go to put it down, hold the front of the window with your fingers so it goes down straight. |

Hi Georgieboy My regulator went on the fritz late last night when I needed of course the window back up to secure the car. As soon as I saw it running the glass all crooked I knew what was about to happen. It had stuck in place at a crazy angle so I jockeyed the button and gently pulled on the glass until it went up and into place. Thanks for the info on the repair. The repair kits I have seen as a quick fix is using the metal supports. Has anyone done this with success? I know I have to buy the kit that replaces the whole regulator and motor with the new design but I need to fix the window temporarily. Thanks

I've never used the kit from the prowlerstore, but I have fixed my regulators and I think that kit would work permanently. You can fix it yourself without that kit. I used a rubber hose cut to length of white tubing on each side. Slice the rubber hose long ways, spread apart over with tubing, put 5-6 small hose clamps spread out over each section of hose. The white tubing usually breaks at bottom where it connects to elbow on track, put a clamp there over rubber hose on the elbow. When I did this the first time I wrapped it with Duct tape around elbow and clamp, held foe about 1 1/2 years and then worked worked loose. When I went back in too fix it again, I wrapped a piece of wire twice around clamp and through the hole in the elbow corner. It's been about 2 years now with no problems. I went ahead and did the other door while I was doing that one, the tubing was cracking when I took that one out. No problems with either window. |

Widow, I sent you a private message. Be very careful trying to move the window as there are a few parts that will break if they are put under much stress. Best to leave it alone and replace the regulator. This message has been edited by Tom Mills on 08-15-2017 at 09:41 PM |

921 I love the replacement design. I am working on 3 of my classic cars at home at the moment and have $$$ flying out of my pocket. I wasn't planning on dropping any further money on the Prowler. I just got it back on the road after sitting for 7 months. That's why I was looking for a quick cheap fix for right now and then circle back to replace the whole design with the new regulator/motor. Fun stuff!

One cannot argue that Tom's replacement kit is not the ultimate fix. I got into a time bind last year and used the fix kit sold through the Prowler Store to repair my passenger window. While you can use tubes, clamps and other means of holding that window mechanism in place, whether or not they will hold and not break some where else might come into play at a later time. If you have any mechanical means you can do either of these repairs. You just need some common tools, a blanket to lay the parts on and before you know it the old broke part is out, repaired or replaced and the new will be back in place. Which ever one of these two repairs you choose that should be the end of any more failures in this area of failure. One thing is for sure....the stock ones ARE going to fail at some point. |

A lot of the stock window regulators have already failed but they just don't know it. I heard from a good source that a lot of them were broke when they were installed at the factory. |
