All, My neighbor and friend has a Prowler I would like to save from the parts bin. I would like to make a reasonable and fair offer but the car is in bad shape and requires work. I do not have a problem with that and have all the skills to save the car. I just need to be fair and reasonable with the price. I was going to get an appraiser but $500 would go a long way to repairs. I sent the attached photos to an insurance appraiser who suggested a price lower than the body panels are worth. Any suggestions? Thank you

I'm thinking the insurance appraiser is pretty much 'spot-on' with their price estimate. I'm afraid to ask ......does it run? What's it weigh? Scrap material mostly....... The rims MIGHT be okay. The computers would be questionable. The convertible latches are good probably. Te deck lid and hood probably are very usable. The side panels are worth some, but not a lot since there are plenty of aftermarket panels, lowering the price of OEM since there are take offs galore. Bumpers. Used window regulators might not be worth a lot, however. I wouldn't pay over $ 5000 for it, for sure. Then you have to hold the parts until the need comes up. |

If the car runs or not is the big question, along with mileage. Was it in a flood or just sitting neglected? |

I would give it a good wash job first. The price would go up if its clean. More 'Pumpkin' photos and Mod Stuff . . . . . . . Our other cars and stuff "I may have to grow older, but I do not have to grow up!" "The Prowler is not a car to go from Point A to Point B. The Prowler is the Point!" |

If the frame, body panels, suspension are all good you might have a re-builder. The engine and trans parts are not that hard to go through. I wouldn't go more than 5 grand. You could have $10-$15 grand in it to re-build for the street. If you can sit on it, the parts will be worth more than the $5 grand. |

So sad, can't imagine what circumstances led to the neglect of such a beautiful automobile. |

Call me crazy but it only looks dirty to me. The most important info you left out was if its running and its mileage. Just the doors and front fenders are worth over $5k. I've recently seen ones wrecked in accidents sell in the low teens. Looks like at least a $12k car to me - I was looking for one for a while and saw some junkers sell for a lot of money. (over $15k) |

quote: 1. I won't call you that,,,but it sure as hell just ain't dirty!!! Looks like a swimmer...mold, mud, dirt, filth,,,,POS status 2. I'll agree. 3. Even cleaned up, I don't think the fenders and doors would bring $2500.... Maybe with the hood, trunk lid, and body panels cleaned up, then one might get $5K+ out of the total package......but then one would have their labor in disassembly time and clean-up invested. I'd be nervous offering $5K for it,,as it sits. ------------------------------------------------------------- Wayne,,any chance you can get the VIN# off of that Prowler, and post it here? |

Texas had a lot of storms and flooding last year. I think this Prowler was flooded. http://abc13.com/weather/montgomery-co-community-evacuated-due-to-rising-flood-water/720910/ |

All, My mistake, this is a 2000 year model. I have known and worked on this car through the years and it was a daily driver, so it has a few miles on it, but I am not certain exactly. This car is not a flood car, it's battery died and was allowed to sit in the open for a couple of years. As all know, the top is not the best at keeping out the elements. Replacing the battery and some drying out, I think it will run and drive. Never wrecked. The insurance appraiser stated to offer $1000. I offered him $6000 and to say the lease he was very disappointed with the offer. He is expecting to achieve 10 to 12K. The unknowns are just to great at this price. I have a 10k miles Prowler in perfect condition. I just hate to see this on go to seed. |

Wayne,,,,,that owner should be glad you offered $6K for that embarrassing vehicle....and I can side with the insurance appraiser's thought of offering $1K,,although too low. As it sits, its a $4 to $5K car, IMO. The unknowns could haunt you a long time if one pays too much for a POS like that one..... |

I admit this is unusual condition for a Prowler, but a few hours with a power washer and a weekend detailing, assuming the engine starts and runs good. If this was local, I would give him $10000. |

If there is mildew in there, in the carpet, it will take a whole lot of work to make it livable. There is probably a carpet to be had, somewhere, but I don't know where. |

It will be work Ed no doubt. His best bet would be to get it running and take it to a detail shop, even if it cost a $1000. He could then trade it or sell it to a dealer with no problem for more then $10000 most likely. This message has been edited by garysss on 03-27-2016 at 08:26 PM |

Guys, Guys, Guys,,,, have you ever dealt with mildew issues???? That chit gets everywhere,,, I mean everywhere. It probably got on every imaginable piece of interior nook and cranny,,, and I mean CRANNY. Inside the door panels, foam in the seats, carpet, under the dash, fuse panel, wiring ect, ect, ect. I just hope it does not go to a unexpected person with allergy issues because it could turn out badly for him or her. JMO |

I agree with the Lawn/Doc,,,,,mildew is a torture to over come ...... Lysol/409 by the gallons, and that probably will not get it all. Sitting outside like that, the mice might have got into the wiring as well? I see a nightmare that any professional detail shop wouldn't try for less than $1500+ to take on,,with no guarantees. The next owner will be getting a Cherry... .

So the owner won't even bother with the most basic cleaning of the car, puts it up for sale in that condition and he's disappointed with an offer of $6K? He expects $10-$12K and he won't even remove the leaves, pine needles and spider webs? Wow. |

Did I read correctly? He let it sit for two years just because the battery died. If he is that damn cheap or stupid or both what else has he neglected on it/ Now he won't take $6K in this condition. You just cant fix stupid. That mold could be a huge issue. |
