I just noticed for the first time today that my key warning chime keeps ringing when the car is off and keys are in my hand. I did check and headlights were not left on. If I push in the door switch it does stop. But as soon as I open the driver door it starts again. Any ideas from anyone who may have had this happen? Thanks! |

My prowler was doing that when I bought it and the problem diagnosis and solution came from AC. There's a good possibility that the plastic bezel that your headlight switch passes through is broken and not letting your headlight switch close all the way. Check the plastic ring at the dash. If it is loose, it is broken and you have to spin it to a slot that lets it sit properly. With a bit of silicone on the back you can glue it directly to the dash. Of course it could be something entirely different lol. |

Jim,,,,Beach is right,,,a broken headlight switch bezel can cause that problem as he described. (doing the same on one of our cars right now,,need to silicone that piece of plastic back in place.) Could also be a trunk lid not fully closed, but since you have a hardtop installed,,I'd rule that out. That door switch might also be the problem.... or defective ignition switch? Good luck,,and let us know what it turns out to be |

Well I have it fixed...it was warning me that I had accidently turned on the interior dome light with the headlamp switch. The chime rings just as if the headlamps were left on. I did look in the owners manual and it doesn't say it will do that..but it does. I tried it a few more times and for sure that was it. Thanks for the other suggestions! |

Thats strange,i did not know that the head light switch had a dome light position ? That means that mine is not working. I thought it was a bad design to have to reach up and turn on the rear view down lights. Learn some thing new Thanks Harold |

Many of you probably already know this and I am still not positive but it seems that the headlight switch has three positions. From past experience I remembered that the lamp brightness for the dash lights would change when turning the headlights on or off and was adjustable to suit the individual, then I noticed there was an extra "Detent" or "Click" when turning the headlight switch on the Prowler which prompted me to investigate. 1- Counter Clockwise all the way turns on the courtesy lamps in the foot wells and inside rear view mirror lights. 2- Middle position seems to make the read out on the rear view mirror brighter when driving with the lights turned on in order to read it during the daytime. 3- One more "click" clockwise through all the way clockwise operates the rheostat or brightness control for the gages. I noticed one day this while driving with my headlights turned on that I could not read the information within the rear view mirror. I noticed that with the headlights on, the middle position would change the brightness of the dash and mirror lights but did not turn on the curiosity lamps. I do not recall reading about this in the owners manual and have not gone back through it to look and see if it is mentioned. Has anyone else noticed this? My car is a 2000. RE: Chime. The chime will alert us for many reasons. It has alerted me when the turn signal was on to long or did not cancel. It has alerted me when I did not close the deck lid properly and I started driving. It has alerted me when I forgot to turn off the parking or headlights. It always lets me know that my keys are in the ignition when I stop for gas. (This one can be annoying) The one time it has not alerted me is if I leave the high beam's on for to long of a period which would be nice if I was being oblivious about it and blinding other drivers. |
