I am wanting to remove the Short Runner Valve (SRV) to polish or chrome it. Is it necessary to disconnect the negative cable on the battery before removing it? Thanks! |

You do not have to disconnect the battery, although Do Not try to start without it hooked up as it will set a code. |

its steel, not polishable,i would be carefull about chroming.it may ruin the valve since it has a vaccum operated valve inside. ------------------ |

"The SRV system operates under WOT conditions above 5000 rpm to maximize engine performance. When actuated by the PCM, the SRV solenoid energizes, allowing mechanical linkage to redirect the intake air flow to six short runners." quote from Service Manual. I don't think the SRV engages until the engine hits 5000 rpms... which I never do unless by accident. Also, I believe there was a post in the past from someone who had removed the SRV and polished it. I tried finding it but couldn't. Obi Wan use to sell these chromed already, but I don't beleieve you can polish them. I took mine off and painted it silver because black paint was chipping off anyway. |

George, this might be a stupid question, but what are "WOT conditions?" Make the answer simple so I don't bother you with yet another question!..lol |

Uh, The first thing you do with steel before chroming is to polish it. Any plating will just mimic the surface it's on. |

quote: Inside the manifold there are two paths the fuel/air mixture can take. One is the long way, around the outer edge and down the individual runners to the intake valves. The other is a more direct route straight down the center of the manifold to the valves. Inside the manifold there are butterflies the same as on the throttle body or a carburetor. During a Wide Open Throttle condition the SRV turns and opens the butterflies so the fuel/air mixture can take the short route. In the old days of carburetors you had short runner manifolds such as "Torkers" and long runner manifolds, typically dual plane manifolds. Each had it's benefits for a certain rpm range of the engine. The Prowler manifold is like have both of these at your disposal when the need arises. ------------------ |

I polished mine many years ago. It does not require much to keep it looking almost as shiney as chrome. |
