Its sad but I honestly cannot find the oil filter. I have a 2001. Can anyone point me to a factory service manual online

The oil filter is located on the driver's side of the engine just in front of the left engine mount. It is cleanly visible from the bottom. Be careful removing it because others have damaged the oil pressure sensor which is located nearby.

Very easy to see, if you are under it, otherwise it is really hard to see, as it is surrounded by parts.

Don't feel bad about looking for the oil filter. When I first decided to change the oil in my HHR, I raised the car on my lift and searched everywhere under the car. I finally lowered the car, looked in the owner's manual and found it on the top of the engine compartment.
