Yesterday I decided to go to the beach, a distance of 130 miles. On the return trip the tire sensor warning light and bell came on. I checked the air pressure and all was fine. This happened last year also on a return from the coast. Both trips occurred on hot days (90's). Could the temperature have anything to do with it? |

you could have a battery going low.there suppose to last 10 yrs.or there could be a problem with the system.needs to be diagnosed.since it seems very intermittent,i wouldn't worry about.when the lite comes on solid and doesn't go out,then i would have it checked.when did you ck the pressure,before the lite came on or after,prssure needs to be checked when cold,its the only accurate way to do it.if you have diff.tires and or wheels,that can also affect the tpms. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 05-31-2009 at 08:35 PM |

I checked it cold the am of the trip. When the warning sounded the tire was hot, I checked it then also. The pressure was slightly elevated, as you would expect from a hot tire. |

when you say elevated,how high was the pressure.ive not heard of high pressure causing that on a prowler,on the newer systems if the pressure is high,it will also cause the lite to come on just as if it was low. ------------------ |

I've had that problem for the last six years in one rear tire. Maybe I've just been lucky, but each time, I just give it a shot of air, even though the pressure is not low, and the sensor turns off. |

The pressure was only a pound or two higher than normal. The next time it does it I'll try the shot of air. Thanks |

ARE THE TIRE AIR CENSERS LOCATED ON THE WHEEL? LOOKING AT A SET OF CUSTOM WHEELS. JUST WANDERING IF IT WOULD STILL WORK. |

The OEM tire pressure sensors are actually a small electronic/pneumatic assembly that includes the valvestem. I know tire pressure sensors can be transferred to aftermarket wheels, but I've heard of cases said sensors won't fit particular aftermarket wheels due to different (than OEM) rim profiles, etc. Also, probably best to keep them in the exact same wheel locations to avoid having to reset the computer.... meaning keep left rear on left rear, right front on right front, etc. |
