just got my 99 prowler with only 3100 miles. I have noise when engine is cold and you put it in gear and just start to move.It sounds like a heat shield vibrating. The noise goes away when the engine heats up to operating temperature. |

Tension on the A/C compressor belt is loose. Best tightened with use of tension guage at your friendly Mopar dealer. as it must be extremely tight or it will say bye bye at high RPM. It will probably "rattle with the A/C on also. |

Another place it could be is the exhaust hanger that is welded right at the muffler. Mine had cracked and rattled right off idle to about 2000 R's. Had a local shop put it on a lift and found it that way. This message has been edited by dbudner on 06-25-2008 at 10:05 AM |

Just a thought! After putting all those miles on my Prowler for the two week event, this Saturday my wifes birthday she wanted to drive the Prowler... Since she drove the car the first time ever on the Royal Gorge Bridge I said NO PROBLEM... She started the Prowler in the garage and it to had a ticking sound while cold and by the time I got out of the car and went to the tool box while she popped the hood, I got my stethoscope to locate it the sound was gone.. I thought it was going to be the lifter problem like others have been experiencing.. Went to breakfast and when started again I was there and with the stethoscope I Found It. It was coming from the drivers side front... Got it home and pulled the Driver side engine panel. What I had found was a loose and ready to fall out front exhaust manifold bolt that I cured with lock tight... Easy fix and is the bolt that holds the heat shield on the manifold plus the manifold to the engine.. Only bolt that is visible on that side.. Never had the noise before and it's gone now... Just a thought... Mine is a 1999 also...... onecatnodog |
