I was reading on another post that one of the best tips from another POA member was to strap down the top when retracted. I never do this, why is it best to..? This message has been edited by dmathieu on 01-12-2003 at 07:45 AM |

Otherwise the top can shake and move around, this will cause small holes to develop, which will turn into larger holes. STRAP your top down or you will be buying a new one sooner than you think. Bob ------------------ |

Correct but do not tighten toooooooo much, the strap's will make marks in your front bow of your top on the underside, I did it to my first Cat....... Never a stupid question on this Board, |

No question is ever stupid! Asking questions is how we learn about this car! Always strap down the top, also make sure that the latches are closed, not laying open. For added protection, I also lay a towel across the top and tuck it in so that nothing gets caught in the deck lid latch! Check your owner's manual, also, for info on storing the top. |

Good idea CJ. I use a 2" X 3" tire dressing sponge, wedged in between the top material and the front (backside) of trunk, right where the trunk lid latches. This provides the room for the trunk lid to close without pinching the top material. I've seen several rental cats with small holes created due to this NOT being done. Of course, people renting a cat wouldn't care about preventing that to happen. |

I tie down the straps with a folded washcloth in between the strap and the top. I feel it helps prevent the strap from rubbing against the top..... |
