Just received my ceramic brake pads from Autozone - PFC-591C. Two problems: 1. Packaging was terrible, they're all chewed up and need to be returned. 2. Although they are definitely ceramic (edge of friction material says CERA 72GG AGBFM - is assume CERA=ceramic) and they say "low dusting", my hands are absolutely black from holding them and it looks like there's metallic copper particles in the black. Does this sound right? I didn't expect low-dusting ceramic pads to make my hands black and contain what looks like copper? Advice is appreciated. Thanks. -GRROWL |

Those are the wrong pads! Raybestos PGD730QS ceramic pads are the correct number. This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 08-01-2002 at 01:09 PM |

Gene, Thanks (I also just sent you an Email about Bert's). Yes, I did do a search - that's where I came up with this number for Autozone. See: They are probably correct, I was just surprised that they left black dust on my hands like charcoal. Do the Raybestos do the same? Autozone is researching whether they can replace the PFCs with Raybestos - their computer shows out-of-stock and a long delivery time. -GRROWL |

I got a set of ceramic pad from Auto Zone for my friend have 300M it's use the same pad as the Prowler, part # is 591C (I got this part # from ED Monahan). price is $49.00 after I installed it working fine and no black dust like other pad. The only thing I can tell the different between Auto Zone and Raybestos is, Auto Zone is a re-manufacture (re-line with new brake pads) the whole brakes are not new like Raybestos but the price is right. |

Sorry if this part did not work out. I asked them if they carried Raybestos and he said "no, what kind of car" and said he had a similar ceramic, dustless pad for $ 49. I didn't see it since they do not stock them. I probably would not have looked at them anyway. I used raybestos a couple of years ago. Again, I was not pushing autozone, I was just checking for GenoTex, I think it was, who originally asked about them. |

No appologies necessary. It sounds like the right part, it just seemed odd that they left black dust on my hands. Autozone is replacing them (the packaging was terrible, they bounced all around during shipping and chipped all of the edges on the friction material.) Assuming the replacements are undamaged, I'll give them a try and report on how they work. Based on sam771's report, I feel confident in using them. Thanks, all. P.S. - sam771 - did you get a chance to try reprogramming your keyless entry? http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006793.html |

Pep Boys usually carry them in stock, and seem to be the cheapest place to buy them. Also check with Carquest,, CGD 730 Gold Series,,,,same pad made by Raybestos. Cost alittle more,,,,,,,,,,LIFETIME warranty ------------------

Reporting on my experience with Performance Friction Corp brake pads will probably not happen. Received the following Email from Autozone: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 14:49:19 -0500 From: customer.service@AUTOZONE.COM Subject: autozone order Dear Steve, Well there is no use in sending the new pair of pads we received today. They look just like the pair you described to me that you have already received. I have sent a memo to Performance Friction stating our displeasure at the way they are shipping these pads. You may return your pads to any local Autozone store for a refund or let us know and we will send you a return label for Fedex. Until PFC can improve there shipping method there is no sense in ordering additional sets. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. We have already issued a credit to your credit card for all shipping charges. Thank you for choosing AutoZone.com. We look forward to your next visit. E-Commerce Customer Care Center SOOOoooooooooo, should I go with the Raybestos or pay more for the Carquest to get a lifetime warrantee? -GRROWL |

Grrowl Get Raybestos from Pep Boy cost $79.99 and don't worry about the quality any more. You know the Raybestos P/N you just them that, less hassle. I will be gone for 3 weeks drive Denver CO, Austin, TX then go to New Maxico, Pheonix AZ, Los Angeles, head to Yosemite CA, Reno NV and home. I feel very bad I have to take another car instead of my KAT because my trailer I had ordered did not get in on time. |
