Previously on the PPC DF, I discussed the installation of my ceramic brake pads. My yellow 99 has the painted wheels and the dust was really annoying. It has been 400 miles and one week since the pad installation and I am happy to report that I still hve no brake dust on the wheels. If any of you are contemplating the change, I would recommend it. |

Dave, What was the part number of the Front and rear pads? I am getting the front end chromed and rear caliphers done also, so while its apart I will do the pads. Thanks ------------------ |

Gary: I didn't change the rears because I didn't have a dust problem there, but the front pad number for Raybestos is PGD730QS [This message has been edited by Dave Mills (edited 07-07-2000).] |

Dave, Over the weekend, I ran into a Prowler owner, Prowler tech, service manager for a DC dealer (this man is all 3) and mentioned to him about these brake pads. He knows it will solve the dust problem but is concerned about reduced braking. Can you comment on that. Thanks. |

Roger: I drove another 140 miles this weekend. Still no brake dust. As for reduced braking, I do not notice any difference. I have a number of old Mopars and the brakes aren't that good on any of them, so I may not be the best judge. Neither my wife or I can see any difference since installing the new pads though |

How difficult is it to replace the front pads with the new ceramic ones. I have the tools and I have put pads on a '72 Chevelle years ago, but that was then. A novice needs a little help. Thanks ------------------ |

Dave - Just got my Raybestos pads today. Should be easy to put them on - just open the caliper a little, a couple of bolts and drop them in. Did the 72 Chevelle have disk brakes? If not - replacing these pads compared to the Chevelle with drums is extremely easy |

I took the Cat to my service Tech. The whole job took about twenty minutes from the time I got there, so it can't be very hard to do. |

Just finsihed putting on the ceramic pads - Total time - 1 hr - The most time was scrubbing out the inside of the wheels to get the dust out of the spokes. - Jack up front side - Take wheel off - Take out 2 bolts holding brack caliper 10 mm socket wrench - twist brake caliper against disk to open them up as far a possible so the install is easy - take out old pads - spring clipped on - install new pads - put caliper back on - insert the 2 bolts - put wheel back on - let down car Repeat for other side Someplace in there wash the wheel. Easy job - did it in shorts and a white shirt - only got hands dirty |

Tony, are you happy with the new pads. What is your opinion of the stopping power? ------------------ |

RE: my post above, the service manager, who drives his own personally owned prowler, commented that he, too, gets tired of cleaning off the dust all the time. But that he would want to call DC and do a little more research on the matter before he would consider doing this. It all related to his concerns regarding stopping power. |

Having read somewhere that the read disks were made of some "aluminum compound" I checked both front and rear disks with a magnet. Front is magnetic so I presume basic steel (as they also show rust). Rear is not magnetic. As a result I was satisfied with using ceramic pads on Front but will not touch anything on the rear. |

Tony: How many miles on ceramic pads? I now have 1200 miles on mine and I am very pleased. Cleaned the wheels for the first time this morning since changing pads. [This message has been edited by Dave Mills (edited 07-23-2000).] [This message has been edited by Dave Mills (edited 07-23-2000).] |

Dave, Talked to buddy (owns repair shop & builds hot rods) today about the new pads. He ask about warpage. Have you noticed any pulsating in the pedal as if the rotor was out of round? I really would like to change before going to Detroit. Larry

OK everyone my two cents, I installed the ceramic pads before going to Detroit for the dream cruise. It reduces the dust a great deal No difference in braking noticed THE PROWLER ENGINEER (JERRY) STATED DO NOT INSTALL CERAMIC PADS ON THE REAR The rear does not produce much dust anyway I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't want to wipe off their wheels ever 10 miles. ------------------ [This message has been edited by WildCat (edited 08-31-2000).] |

I'am happy to see you again Dan, I too installed the Raybestos QS pads. Very happy with the results. Nobody seem to notice any lack of stopping power at Texas Motor Speedway. Although I almost hit the pace truck once ------------------ |

I love the ceramic brake pads. Since installing them, I have actually started cleaning the inside of my wheels. Before, I didn't even bother, didn't figure it was worth the trouble. It's nice not having to worry about that dust anymore. Gary C, one MORE post for ya. ------------------ This message has been edited by JUST JP on 10-30-2000 at 06:16 AM |

Raybestos make ceramaic pads for the prowler and most users are purchasing the Raybestos brand. Other manufacturers may make ceramic pads also. Raybestos is well known for their quality. Best price for the front pads was at Pep Boys for around $60. I paid 75 at a local quality parts place. ------------------ |

I just put front ceramic pads on my Prowler. Bought them under the Carquest brand name. Raybestos makes them for Carquest. Paid $72. Ceramic brake pads are OE on some cars today. For some info see http://www.raybestos.com/quietstop.htm Nelson Weber |
