Interesting thought I’ve had over the years… Yes, total hypothetical and impossible given what’s happened to Chrysler over the years and given the one of a kind car the Prowler is, all that aside, how would you feel if they brought back the Prowler?
This thought hit me again after seeing Toyota bringing back the Supra….

Personally, I’m not sure where I would sit on the subject… Would I want a new one…Maybe… Would the new one over shadow the original…. Maybe.. Would I be angry and upset at this happening… Maybe…

Having helped bring it to market, I don't think that they could bring a similar vehicle to market. They've been great bringing low volume derivatives to market like the Demon, Super Stock, 1320, 392 Wrangler, wide body Challenger's and Charger's, and etc. but I can't see a low volume complete car at an affordable price. The regulations are huge and the investment is being funneled towards electrification driven by politicians.

Viper was multiple generations but much more expensive. Prowler was an experiment in development efficiency and alternative materials with a minimal investment. It wasn't for everyone. It was just because they could. That was the leadership team in place at the time.

You misunderstood the question… Of course it would not be feasible…
The question was a hypothetical… How would you feel about it?

If it was exactly like the original, it could be a big plus having all parts available again. I kinda like the limited numbers of our Prowlers now, but don't think I would mine. Original Prowler's could be worth less depending on price of new Prowlers, but that doesn't bother me much, as I never thought I would make money on them when I bought them. I was just happy I could buy them in the first place. Of course, the New Prowler would have to have a V-8, after all the talk the last 25 years, it would suicide to build it with anything else.LOL

The sale price in today’s market would probably be beyond my reach. It would also probably devalue our original Prowlers. Not that I ever plan to sell, but still. I really enjoy the uniqueness of our Prowlers so I think I would be against it.

they said after the original 501 yellow Prowlers " No more yellow Prowlers"

I thought GREAT, then they built 1,100 more

In a pipe dream if they were to build another one it would have to be completely different due to what Bob stated, would not pass today's regulations and probably couldn't be designed anywhere close to the original

If someone could build one with a manual transmission, rear axle strong enough to take the power and torque of 6.1 Hemi it would be a real Hit . The thieves would be getting their scanners souped up and stealing them off the showroom floor at a record rate

I don't think it would take value away from original, because in today's dollars it most likely would sticker at $80000 or $90000. If it had a v-8 and stick, it would be popular, but someone will still want the original.

So, how would you feel if they brought out the same body, but all electric, with say 500 HP at the rear wheels?

Remember the Shay Model "A"?
Or The Shay Bird?
Going down the same path does not always work out.

I think they would say it should have had a V8. LOL The Prowler would finally actually have a real trunk.

Not necessarily. The batteries have to go somewhere and balanced from to rear. Out Prowlers have nearly a 50 / 50 front to rear balance..

Quincy posed a neat question on what if it were electric… Hmmmm
I think I’m just too old school… An electric Prowler I think would work directly against the retro feel of the Prowler…. That said, and what Gary added, I bet there would be a huge following if the new ones had a V8 under the hood…

Yes, but they are normally down low between the frame under the cab.

How about an electric Prowler where the computer also acts as an stereo amplifier that can reproduce the sound of any Type of V8 engine you want. Play the sound through some stereo speakers. The engine sound is actuated by the gas’s pedal & Transmision. You could even add a electric cylinder that would give the car a realistic vibration & body torque. Even maybe an exhaust simulation. It’s gonna happen just a matter of time. Chevrolet, Ford, maybe even a Corvair.

Wheelers Dealers TV Episode where they take a 1985 Maserati Biturbo & make it into an EV. Could be easily done to a prowler.

Can you imagine the fights at the end of the day to hook up to the "super charger" at a EV Prowler event?

Topic has drifted a bit to electric vehicles, so I'll comment on a Telsa Plaid.

After riding as a passenger, I finally drove my friend's Plaid, 1,020HP (750KW), zero to 60mph in 2 seconds, 9 second 1/4 mile.

You need a neck brace and a fighter pilot G-suit to handle acceleration. (I'm suing him for whiplash)

Place controls in Drag-Strip Mode, warm up battery (yes, Tesla says to warm-up battery first for max output) and your off to the races.

Other than pure acceleration and reasonably good handling, it takes a while to get use to driving with half a steering wheel.

Brakes are marginal, but Tesla has a upgrade package for composite brakes at a trivial $20,000.

There's no noise, no gear changes, no sensation of speed, which can get you in trouble really quick. Did I mention the brakes suck!

Exterior Styling, in my opinion, is bland. Interior is minimalist.

Only badging that tells you it's $140,000, 1,020 HP, is a tiny placard stuck on truck that says PLAID.

Funny that Dick Henry mentioned V8 sound. Before I went for drive, recorded Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Car sounds on my phone.

Bluetooth connected to Plaid's audio system. Hit the electric pedal (gas pedal???) and play button. Sound and sensation were amazing.

Thinking a 1,000 HP plus Electric Corvette would be a runaway best seller. Style, power and with V8 audio package.

Hi Tom… thanks for sharing… very interesting and awesome really….
Question for you or anyone who has experience with all electric…
Is there any loss of the real world “feel” of a motor under the hood?
IE: would a Viper or Vet owner give up that V10/V8 for the performance of electric….
To me, having that natural feeling of an aspirated motor under the hood is part of a driving experience…. Not downgrading EV… Just curious on the total experience….

Rich,

It's sort of a rhetorical question in some ways.

Depends on your driving philosophy on any given day. Do you want to cruise with family for a weekend vacation all nice and comfy in a big smooth riding, low noise, car that you don't even know if the engine is running?

Or, do you want to feel 20-30 years younger and go top down, pedal to the metal, roaring like a bat out of hell?

Me, I like to do both, but a stronger urge for the latter.

There will never be anything that can beat sound of a V8 with big overlap camshaft loping at idle, begging to go full throttle and then burning rubber down the street. (PS... Tesla Plaid wouldn't allow you to burn rubber... sad.)
Legal disclaimer... I would never, never ever, burn rubber down the street, honest.

"My 4 speed, dual Quad, posi-traction 409"

"And comin' off the line when the light turns green
Well she blows 'em outta the water like you never seen
I get pushed out of shape and it's hard to steer
When I get rubber in all four gears, She's my little Deuce Coupe"

.... Beach Boys, all rights reserved.

Ain't no EV songs.... yet.

Of cause, our grandchildren and their child will probably say, "There's nothing like seating on top of a Saturn Rocket and blasting off.

Funny.... same guy who builds EV's also builds rockets.... coincidence????

We're all ICE people here with our Prowlers. It's in our DNA.

Remember....

They told Columbus the earth is flat......

If man could fly, God would have given him wings......

If God would have wanted fiberglass boats, he would have made fiberglass trees......

Gee, it used to be a nice place to live...... Sitting on a planet in another solar system look out at Earth, pondering.

There's a place and time for everything,

For those of us fortunate to have a daily driver plus our toys.... life is good.

In business and life, one must adapt to survive.

PS…. When are they delivering the C8, ZO6 5.5-litre V-8 Flat Plane Crank that revs and screams like a Banchi to 8,700 RPM?

PPS… Ain’t no Tach in a Tesla either.
