Honda was doing the same thing several years ago....they were smart enough to bribe the 'right people' and never got called on the carpet. An argument will be made that the higher distance traveled with a gallon of diesel vs a gallon of gasoline = the same NOx level. Example: 60 MPG on one gallon of diesel vs 30 MPG per gallon of gasoline in measured NOx is ~=. "According to the EPA, software installed on the electronic control module of affected vehicles operates in two modes: “temperature conditioning” and “normal.” Under temperature conditioning mode the cars pass emissions tests. Exactly one second after the completion of initial emissions testing, the vehicle transitions to normal mode and changes operating parameters where NOx emissions and performance increase." |
