...a couple of nights ago I attended a meeting with many of my highschool classmates, Class of 1969, to plan for "Homecoming" this year...we talked about being retired, and how long we have worked etc, and I had the record, working 52 years, starting in 1962 as a 10 year old kid washing dishes at a restaurant...the last summer vacation I had was after 4th grade, no spring breaks ever, I just worked

...I have been planning retirement for a couple of years and this week is the first week of "no paperwork" at my desk since 1971...I once had a 27 year stretch of work without even taking a vacation other than a few 3 day weekends for the MOPAR Nats, it sure does seem odd...am I ready, yes, am I scared, no, am I ready to see the other side of life, yes

...I still own commercial properties, too many automobiles and I have financial investments to attend to but as of today, NO MORE PAPERWORK !!! ...my daughter is buying my retail businesses and I am going to continue to help and advise her (she is a very very capable person with a fantastic work ethic) until I am no longer needed, but I have made it very clear, I AM DONE !!!

...I'm planning on attending more car events, shows, auctions etc. anywhere and everywhere I want to go...Debbie still has a couple of years of things to do, or prove, and she will then no doubt join the terminally unemployed...she is a senior vice president at a chain of banks and she was just hired by an international company to be on their board of advisors, I think she wants to give that a run for a while too...I always knew she was smart, she married me !

...the last few years have been a struggle due to expanding our store base and I am just too old and tired for all the excitement these days...dealing with employees, break-ins, competitors, changing governmental rules and regulations...it seems the whole world is going "on-line" and I still use a legal pad and a telephone with a cord, I'm as outdated as a 1951 Buick at the Daytona 500...it's time to step aside and let the next generation make theirs, it has been a great ride

...time for my nap

PS...see ya at a car show this summer, MOPAR Nats this week, Woodward next week, and don't forget the Nursing Home Nationals in September

I can't think of anyone,,more non-deserving than you for retirement

Cookie has provided the extra income to buy you cars,,,provided the insurance for medical,,,cleans the house,,,does the dishes,,,makes the great meals for your belly,,,does the laundry,,,mows the yard,,,changes the oil in all of the cars,,,while you sit in that big chair listening to music from the 60's, watching re-runs of the Monkeys, and looking at Linda Vaughn and Henry Winkler photos on the internet.
Shameful,,I tell you,,shameful.

Hey old man, it's about time you hung um up. Congrats on starting your new life. I'm never bored, except maybe in the winter. You said you have too many cars. Why don't you give me one (the '94 ACR Viper). See you soon, my friend, at the Mopar Nat's.

Congrats and enjoy it Larry, you will love it. I started at 10 also, 3 years ago at age 50, I semi retired. I work a couple of part time jobs that I like doing and love being off. I wish I would have went at 45 like I said I was going to do. I'm busy everyday doing whatever I want. You will soon wonder why you waited so long.

Sounds good to me. I have been retired over 21 years and don't miss working. Like Galaxie I get bored in the Winter so I work a few hours a week. There is always things to keep you busy.
Congrats Larry, Dave and Debbie for the "promotion"/new position. She is smart, she is staying away from Larry as much as possible. lol
Your cars will keep you busy most of the time. I can line you up with some repo orders in that area if you get too bored. lol

Congratulations. I didn't know Ed ever worked, but I've been retired a little longer than Ed, 25 years and that is why I cannot afford to go on all those wonderful trips with the Prowler gang.

You are my hero Larry Bell!
Congratulations on your retirement.
Your note was very well thought out and written. I always enjoy reading your posts.
I hope to follow your foot steps in the not too distant future.
Look me up when you get to the west coast.

The guy in that pink car sure looks happy, but I think he needs a pretty pink shirt to match.
Congratulations Larry on your retirement. Well done and well deserved. And you thought life up until now was fun... now the real fun begins! Enjoy!

Larry,

Is that a recent photo? If so, what made you decide to actually drive something from the collection?

Here's a thought. Drive a different car each week. Once you have gotten through all of them.....start over. I imagine that ought to take better part of a year to go thru them once.
