I bought a new Dell laptop in mid-March. I can't download pictures from the camera to the computer. When I put the card into the computer, it starts a "computer scan" and then nothing.
The computer has Windows 8 installed and I am having other problems figuring out what is going on but this is the most frustrating.
I actually succeeded in downloading some pictures from the camera a few months ago but can't figure out what is going on NOW.
Anyone know what needs to be changed?
Thanks in advance.

Try Google Picasa, when you plug in your card it should ask you what program to use to open and download... choose the Picasa and you should be good...

Picassa is an excellent program and it is free.

Ed, try plugging the camera into the computer by usb. I don't use windows 8 but I am sure that if you go to Computer, it used to be My Computer inWindows XP, the camera will show up as another drive then you can open it and find your pictures.

Thanks for the help, both on this thread and the PMs. I got it to work basically by doing what Padroo said to do.
Open "Computer" and then I played around with it and finally found something that worked.
I'll ask again next week when I try again and forget what I did. lol
Thanks again. I got them downloaded.
I wasn't having trouble finding the pics, I just couldn't get them to load from the camera to the laptop. I can still do it on Sandy's because she still has XP.

I'm converting the office and home both to Macs. I'm fed up with Microsoft. I've had nothing but problems with anything newer than XP.

I googled how to download pictures and every method seemed to say to connect the camera to the computer, none mentioned inserting the card ONLY.
So I finally tried that and it works. It is not real simple but it works.
Inserting the card never created a new screen or a pop up.
Progress.

Windows 8 is highly incompatible with most programs and periferals.

I am finding that out. I didn't realize my laptop was equipped with Windows 8 when I bought it. Pain in the butt trying to figure out how things work (or don't, in my case).
