...about 25 years ago I answered an ad in Indy for a CUDA Funny Car body for sale, bought it for $300 with tons and tons(truck load)of extra parts...a friend of mine and I were going to build a street car out of it, a Panther Pink AAR CUDA with a 440 SIX PACK - AT, 2 seats and a complete roll cage...a "Street Funny Car"

...a short way into the project my builder/best buddy died and the project was on hold for many years...then the frame builder died...the body of the car sat in my back yard for years, the kids used the parachute pack as the stike zone while playing baseball, it made a good backstop...we moved and the Funny Car body was left sitting in a field for another decade

...last year I pick up a magazine and my old FC body was in there being reunited with the chassis... turns out is was the 1971 National Champion Candies & Hughes FC...it also raced under a couple of other names, one being "Assasination"

pix...old picture from its glory days...this is the body I owned for about 15 years or so...it sat in my back yard and in a field for a long time...finally rescued last year and reunited with it's original chassis...wish I had known what it was when I owned it...it was painted Plum Crazy and said "CHASE" on the side while in my possession

In the late 60's I was still in high school and worked for a Summer as a parking lot attendant at the Pittsburgh International Dragway. I remember the funny cars, the jet cars and the bike drags etc. I also remember the noise and foul air of nitro burning and the ground shaking. The drag strip went under in the 70's and now it is just a memory of my youth a long time ago. Street racing was tough because you couldn't find a straight section of highway that was 1/4 mile long.

When I think of the places we would find to race, it scares me today. What were we thinking? We lost one friend in a race, brother of Nascar celeb Randy Lajoie, right in my home town. Terrible, but there weren't any tracks close by and youth , passion and stupidity won out at times.
