Posting this for Lou Oniga (Quincy)

Check out the license plate on pic #6. Their truck works great; as long as you don't want to haul anything in it or shift gears...

Want to know what happens when you build your truck too light?> At GM they call it "bed gate parallelograming" due to excessive flex causing the tailgate to be crushed at the corners by the bed sides. You see this on some older rusted bed 1970's GM and Ford trucks after the has rotted in critical structure areas and bed starts to flop. That obviously isn't the case with the Tundra, which is just too light, too flexy and too cheap to do real work. This could be caused by rough roads, towing etc...aka normal work-type stuff. The other trucks have had ATVs and Golf Carts loaded into them (the white one). Golf carts are not so heavy that one axle should pretzel a tailgate. Actually you should be able to load it and haul it on the gate properly secured...not with a Toyota.> A petition has been launched. I find it telling that one of these people says that the Tundra owners manual actually warns owners not to drive with the gate down. In spite of this fact, Toyota sells bed extenders at its dealers for this truck(WTF?). Toyota clearly knows something that they aren't telling the owners...who have found out by losing their tailgates while going down the road, having them crack with less than 200 lbs on them and getting crunched at the corners due to excessive bed flex. Every single truck will need to be recalled to have new redesigned gates installed. Toyota has blown it with this truck, it will destroy their gleaming image of build quality within a year.> More pictures and owner accounts:> http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/114436-tundra-tailgate-failures-i-am-club/> Petition:> http://www.petitiononline.com/Kwasted/petition.html> The owner comments with the petition signatures:> http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?Kwasted&1> http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/114570-sign-petition-2007-tundra-tailgate-failure/> Another problem is transmission shudder...followed by transmission failure. Bummer.> http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/103690-2007-6-speed-transmission-failures/> http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/toyota/tundra/transmissions/page1.html> They were also kicked off the Consumer Reports "Recommended" list.> http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/16/toyota-hit-hard-by-new-consumer-reports-predicted-reliability-ra/>

Thank you very much CJ. You will never hear or see this on the news or in Consumers Reports. Everyone thinks the foreign makes are infallible. And don't believe the TV commercials showing great 'feats of strength'! You need to read the fine print.

Toyota is replacing all of these under warantee. Can't say the same thing about american cars.... remember:

Peeling Chrome wheels?
Failed hood shocks?

The american car companies need to get the panel gap issues, build quality up, etc. etc. then they get to make fun of the other car companies....

NeverBland,
I took your negative comments about the fit and finish quality of American cars very seriously. I just finished a 20 minute detailed inspection of the fit and finish on my Pontiac Solstice, Chevy HHR, and Caddie STS. I can honestly state that the gap uniformity and distance is on par with or better than any foreign mark. All three paint jobs, one white, one black, and one blue, are impeccable. I would even put money on that statement!!

I strongly recommend Americans watch the excellent documentary created by Ken Burns titled "The War". This 'history lesson' will not only bring a tear to your eye, but it will also remind you of the horrors inflicted by the Japanese and Germans during WWII.
Please thank a veteran today for your right and freedom to bash this great country and what is left of its industrial might!

I bought a 2005 Dodge Magnum in August 2004. It being one of the first, I found the carpet in the rear cargo area to be misaligned and was somewhat disappointed in how the "carpet hinge" was designed to cover the transverse void left by folding the rear seats down. Other than that, in almost two years and 31K miles of driving, I found the build quality on that car to be very good for a car of its price range (a bit over $20K). It was extremely comfortable and quiet. Also, I found the 2.7L V6 adequate and got great fuel mileage. Other than one recall and a TSB, I never had any issues with the Magnum...... although it seemed the thing to do at the time, I now kinda regret trading it off. American cars collectively had numerous problems, major quality problems, back in the 60's and through the early 80's, and I experienced my share of them, but American cars are now SO MUCH BETTER that I see them equal to many/most foreign makes. It's still true that you get what you pay for, so when comparing, it's important to compare apples to apples, etc. I find American cars to be of exceptional value far more often than not. I do get disappointed that many OEM parts for our American cars are of foreign origin.....

We have two PTs and both have almost 85,000 miles on them. VERY few problems. Changed the brakes but not much else as far as repairs.
I have to agree the American cars in the 70s were horrible and the foreign cars brought a lot of pressure for the Big 3 to get their acts together. The cars are MUCH better now.
