...there is always the "one that got away"....for me it was the summer of 1969 and I had just been involved in a pretty bad crash in my 69 Chevelle SS-396/375 (the Chevelle would never be the same again)...I was sitting still on the highway turning left and got rearended by a car doing about 65mph...he was drunk...

...my dad was a diehard Ford guy and wanted me to trade my crushed Chevy for a new Mustang, so I went along just to appease him....we went to a little town about 10 miles from home and looked at a new red 69 Mustang, it said BOSS 429 on the front fender......my dad went nuts wanting me to trade, he was willing to sign anything to get me to buy that Ford and I hated it...the salesman told me it was a "NASCAR HEMI" engine and I didn't know what the hell he was talking about(he didn't either, but it sounded good).....we looked the car over, kicked the tires and I had to get back to work so we left.....a few nights later I saw the BOSS 429 on the local cruise strip with slicks and open headers....it sounded like a freight train coming towards me.....at that moment I realized I might have been too hasty in turning the Ford down, it sounded awsome...the car got a quick reputation in town for being a bad a$$ ride and I was still waiting for my Chevy to get fixed...just a couple of years ago at a local cruise, a guy stepped up as I was admiring a local BOSS 429 and he said to me, "I used to have one of those in 1969"....turns out it was the same guy that bought the red one I had looked at 35 years ago....the Ford had had a short life like many Muscle Cars of the day, same as my Chevelle, it was totally destroyed shortly after I sold it and a friend saw it in the junkyard crushed in a stack of cars...he recognized the color as I had the car painted a Vette "Steel City" gray....

I got a maroon 1969 Boss 429 (with the "shaker" air scoop) when they came out. I loved it for awhile when Hi-test was $.29/ gallon. It passed everything but the gas station. I took it to Denver and had trouble with the carburetion due to altitude. Traded it for a new 240Z in 1972.

Fixee - Awesome car,,,,,except the color. I thought of buying one at the time,,,,then thought about 8 mpg as a daily driver for a poor, struggling college student and bought a new 1970 'Stang, 351 4bbl Cleveland instead.

My 429 had the shaker, in fact the 429 was the only functioning shaker, the others in the line had a air scoop but was not atteched to the engine like the 429.

I threw a rod in mine driving through Colorado on the no speed limit section of pre I-70. Luckily it was still under warranty and all it cost me to fix it was $25.00. That was many moons ago.
