Only the uneducated become soldiers according to Senator John "I won 3 purple hearts in Viet Nam" Kerry.... .....And now, having been caught with his foot in his mouth (next to the silver spoon) and in a pathetic attempt to blame it on those "mean spirited" Republicans, he says it's George Bush's fault that he made such a ridiculous and unpatriotic statement and "I'm not gonna take it any more".......You want some cheese with that whine, Mr Kerry? .....Friends,....the polls open early and stay open late.... Whatever you do next Tuesday, don't forget to vote...Do it for those "dullards" in Iraq..... This message has been edited by bjprowler on 10-31-2006 at 06:55 PM |

I have a job working with all branches of the military. This week I will be working at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Let me tell you, while some of these young men are not Harvard grads, they are light years away from being the type described by Kerry. Most are dedicated to a cause Kerry's spoken against. They're out there to save our butts. I have sold to these brave guys and women for years and one of my greatest pleasures is getting a chance to speak with them personally during exchange retail shows on base. I am about to begin 5 days with them here in NC for the 5th consecutive year. I'll let you know if I find any who might qualify as the dummies JFK describes. I doubt I will, I never have. Give me one of these Marines on my side any day. I don't qualify as someone entitled to utter the words Semper Fidelis but I think I can imagine what it means to those who have committed themselves to this tough job. Uneducated !!! I was drafted in 1965 just as the Viet Nam was really heating up. I already had an 8th grade education with some post grad work. (grad from grade school). You guys hit the nail on the head. They have Teddy and this idiot and the sad part is they are proud of both of them. Now he is saying it is an attack on Dubya. Right. |

Wow, where was the outrage when bush likens the Dems to terrorists? I'm sure some of our soldiers are Democrats also. So this is what politics has come to in the 21st century, name calling. Me,,I'm more outraged by every dead or injured American soldier caught up in an unjust, unpopular occupation of a foreign country called Iraq. Just as we all believed Bush when he said Iraq had WMD's, we'll have to believe Mr. Kerry's response. If thats not a good enough answer for ya'll, remember that no-one died as a result of Mr. Kerry's mistake.

I don't think Bush was the only one who beleived that he had WMD! "[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction. "[W]ithout question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he has continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real ... |

I am not taking a stand on this issue but it never ceases to amaze me how a simple statement can get so distorted. I think he definitely f***ed up in his statement but it is no different then most politicians do. If anyone out there is voting based on statements such as these, I have some great waterfront property to sell you. I don't pay any attention to what either side says about the other. Instead I look at what that person has accomplished or not accomplished while in office. The gov of Maryland is running against the mayor of Baltimore and keeps bashing him for Baltimore being one of the most violent cities in the nation. Yesterday the new statistics came out and showed that Baltimore went from 6th to 12th in the past year. He bashes him because the schools are crappy. Well they have been crappy for 20 years and the mayor doesn't run the school system, he runs the city. We have all kind of new development going on in the city and things are looking up. But they don't want you to see that. They just want to blur the real picture. This is no different. I am sure Kerry did not intend to insult any servicemen but now the whole statement is twisted to mean something entirely different.
I'll vote on both sides of the line, and because of what they have done, not what they have said. |

Most who know me know that I can't stand Bush. But Kerry should be man enough to apologize. What he said was stupid, plain and simple. What he intended to say (but apparently screwed it up) was also stupid. Not admitting a mistake seems to be a common affliction among both Democrats AND Republicans. A little humble pie goes a long way in my book, but self-righteous arrogance is deplorable and inexcusable. The armed forces make every effort to provide the opportunity for military people to advance their education, be it a bachelors, or masters degree. While members of the military may not all have Yale, Stanford or Academy degrees (many do though), they have a maturity, sense of responsibility and purpose and loyalty to America that few politicians (Democrat or Republican) will ever possess. |

Watching the Today show and the news report said that Kerry has canceled his campaigning for the Democrats as he doesn't want to be a distraction. He said that it was a "joke" that came out wrong but he also said he refuses to apologize for it. I agree with Gary....I am sick of the candidates bashing each other. The Governor race here is unbelieveable! Just tell me what you are going to do to make things better if you are elected. That's how I'll decide. Our current Gov has done crap for us. |

CJ, All kidding aside and not even addressing politics, period, as it continues to be a ball of unending twine...both your sons are to be commended by us all! I spent 20 years in Active USAF uniform...the evil one has over 28 years combined Active AND AF Reserve time--to date--and continues to serve, still...which includes her 7-mos in IRAQ! So, we understand what sacrifices are entailed! I salute both Paul AND Brian! I did my 1-year tour in Viet Nam/Thailand 40 years ago. I can't say I believe in WAR or in our President's decision to be in it, currently, but I support that AND those who must! Elf and I supported our country and need no accolades Your sons are what makes AMERICA AMERICA! Salute ......... |

I rarely join in the political threads here, but wanted to add my .02 here. I am a pretty conservative Republican and served over 20 years in the government. Yes, I went to West Point and have an MBA, and I support the President and the course he took the nation on. However, as right leaning as I am, I do not feel Sen. Kerry was slighting servicemembers with his comment. I believe it was a dig at the President and just came out wrong. I do feel he could have done a better job of damage control though. And CJ, the top medal is jump wings, the second one down is for special operations. Still a very impressive salad. Mine is tucked away somewhere safe for my kids. |

I also believe the guy just messed up, but it shows a mindset. Also he refuses to apologize! He sure could have lessened the fallout with a heartfelt "I'm Sorry, I screwed up". |

I think the best single point in this is that George Bush had a HIGHER gpa at yale than John Kerry did during his college days. I guess if you apply yourself and make the best of it, you get to be president. If you dont, you get stuck in massacheusetts married to the ketchup queen. paul b |

We all have or have had family members or friends serve in the military or in a war zone at one point or another and all are to be commended for this regardless of their medals, accolades, etc. No need for pointing out any one individual's accomplishments, etc for time served. Some have volunteered some were drafted but I would never say anyone or everyone in the military is uneducated!! Maybe Kerry's words did not come out as he had planned for them to but he said it plain & simple. John Kerry can go straight to hell. Thank you to all our military!! |
