Hey GOP political junkies and anti-illegal immigration folks,

Some interesting news from Michigan. You have to think that the GOP would take note of results like this... a virtual unknown a few weeks ago now winning due to his anti-illegal immigration stance. The entire story can be seen at http://www.humaneventsonline.com/rightangle/index.php?1=1&title=tancredo_wins_straw_poll_in_michigan

Tancredo Wins Straw Poll in Michigan

Rep. Tom Tancredo's get-tough-first attitude on immigration reform is having a positive impact on his possible presidential run in 2008. The Colorado Republican won tonight's GOP straw poll in Macomb County, Mich., located in the Detroit metro area.

Candidate........ Percent
Tom Tancredo.... 18.5%
Rudy Giuliani...... 13.8%
Mitt Romney...... 12.3%
Condi Rice......... 12.0%
Newt Gingrich.... 11.7%
John McCain...... 11.7%
George Allen........ 6.5%
Mike Pence.......... 4.6%
Ron Paul............. 4.3%
Mike Huckabee..... 1.8%
Bill Frist.............. 1.2%
Alan Keyes.......... 0.6%
Candice Miller....... 0.6%
Sam Brownback.... 0.3%

Macomb Co. has long been a Republican stronghold. Wonder why Jeb was not on the list? Did he get 0.0%?

Lots of folks aren't on the list - Jeb, Cheney, Powell, etc. It sounds like it was an open ended question: "Who is your choice for President in 2008?" So my guess is that these folks got no votes.

Granted, straw polls are far from scientific, but the results in this one are extremely interesting. Could make for an interesting primary, eh? I'd love to see a Democratic straw poll in a place like Texas or Illinois (i.e. not California, Massachusetts, New York, etc).

Something tells me that the primary races may be radically different than what the mainstream media is portraying. Instead of McCain-vs-Giuliani and Hillary-vs-Kerry-vs-Pelosi, we may get Tancredo-vs-Gingrich and Hillary-vs-Gene Taylor or some other combination that no one sees coming. Hopefully when the dust settles, someone gives us a candidate worth voting for.

Any thoughts on Joe Biden (D-DE) ? I read he wants to run for President in 2008.
Whatever happened to Wesley Clark ?
"BeWare" made a good point about Hillary. She seems to be telling people what they want to hear, but you can't be sure she really means it. But you could say that about a lot of the politicians.

I think Rudy Giuliani and Tom Tancredo would make a good ticket,,,Rudy for the top job. Giuliani would swing the moderate and conservative [if there are any left] Democrats over to the Republicans,,,and Tancredo would have the voters who resent the American culture being split into two factions >>>> the illegal immigrants vs. the rest of us!

Why should I have to PRESS 1 for English?

If I were a governor, (which I never will be) one of the first things I'd do is get rid of all the state forms at the DMV printed in Spanish or any other language and I'd eliminate all non-English telephone messages.

After all, how the heck can you expect someone to safely drive a vehicle if they can't read traffic signs in English (and yes, all traffic signs would be in English only). And so would the driving test!

I'd probably get sued by some group, but I'd argue the Senate recently passed legislation that English is the official language in the U.S. and my state is following the letter and intent of the law!
