Judge Napollitano on Trump Team Pushing for End to Mueller Probe: 'Be Careful What You Ask For'

By Fox News Insider 5/17/2018
As seen on Fox & Friends

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said he "profoundly disagrees" with the strategy being employed by President Donald Trump's legal team.
In recent weeks, Trump's attorneys and supporters have been calling for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to wrap up his investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

"This case is essentially over," Rudy Giuliani said on "The Ingraham Angle" on Wednesday. "They're just in denial."
On "Fox & Friends," Napolitano said the strategy of trying to increase the public pressure on Mueller to end his probe could be a dangerous game.

He pointed to the saying, "Don't taunt an alligator until after you've crossed the stream."

He said Mueller's team doesn't care about public pressure, and their job is to do the right thing regardless of public opinion.

"Prosecutors can really make your life miserable," Napolitano said. "I would argue with them in private, I would show them what evidence we had in private, I would challenge their evidence in private. But I wouldn't challenge them in public because you gotta be careful what you ask for."

As for Giuliani's claim that Mueller told the president's legal team he will follow Justice Department guidance and not seek an indictment against Trump, Napolitano pointed to a DOJ memo from the 90s.

"[It] says the president can be indicted but not prosecuted until after he leaves office. You might have to indict him to stop the running of a statute of limitations, the time period during which the prosecution must be commenced or be waived."
