I've never voted any way but Republican but it's getting hard to be serious after seeing statements like this. I guess I'll just grit my teeth and try not to think about it.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/john-boehner-to-jay-leno-i-wouldnt-trade-cigarettes -for-presidency/

Almost sounds like Robert Dole saying he wasn't sure cigarettes were harmful.

I guess cigarettes are better than pot or cocaine. I never thought I'd have to choose to support one or the other. We've come a long way.

Must we forget that BHO and Clinton had some weed smoke, and possibly who knows what else in their system at one time...

Why be concerned about Boehner's personal, legal, habits....good or bad, its his right to do what he wants?

Was anyone concerned about the nearly, always alcohol drunk, Sen. Ted Kennedy? He drove a car off a bridge and took the life of a young woman......

'What difference does it make?' according to the bag-of-sh!t lady, Hillary Clinton

Interesting how the media can take something that was said out of context and make a story out of it.....Boehner was just saying that he would not want the constant attention, lack of privacy and being under the microscope when you're President......The article turned his comment around to imply that his cigarettes were more important to him than being President.....

Spin and stir the pot journalism.....I remember when Americans relied upon the media to provide insight into the nation's issues and candidates allowing us to be better informed and make thoughtful opinions...

You're exactly right. All those people you mentioned were not leaders to be admired. I was hoping for a little better. He has a right to be as crazy as Dennis Rodman but he doesn't have a right to be considered to be a world leader,he has to earn that right. The Speaker should cut out the stupid statements like the one he made if he wants to stay where he's located in gov.

He should at least present himself as a leader even if he isn't. Just because someone has bad breathe doesn't mean he should blow it in our faces to prove it.We know he has. Sorta like being a parent or teacher or military leader, try to set an example.

ANOTHER reason to watch what you say in public. The media will twist anything to show something that would prove the person in power is strange (Joe Biden). Crazy uncle joe needs to be seen and not heard. If you're a Republican you're at a disadvantage anyway because of the unfair media coverage. You would think of all people, Boehner would be aware of this. One crazy statement sticks for life.

Reagan..ketchup is a vegetable
Quaile..where's the Latin interpreter
Bush..no new taxes
Clinton..I did not have sex with that woman
Obama..If you like your doctor you can keep him/ you didn't do that ,the gov. did
Hillary...At this point what difference does it make/ anything can happen in the last two weeks (primary)
Pelosi..We need to pass the bill then we can read it
Romney..I have women in binders
Bush jr. .. Bring it on (war)
Sarah Palin..I can see Russia from my porch
Dole..not sure cigarettes are harmful
Gary Hart..see if you can catch me
L.Johnson..we're winning the war
C. Christy..what bridge?
John Kennedy..Marilyn and I are just good friends
McCain..I don't know how many homes I have
J Carter..I lust in my heart

Here's the direct quote from the article.....

Quote:
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, says he likes his life too much to run for president.

Making his first appearance Thursday night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," Boehner was asked by the host whether he'd ever consider seeking the nation's highest office.

"No," Boehner said immediately. "No?" Leno said. "No," Boehner repeated.

"Listen, I like to play golf," Boehner said by way of explanation. "I like to cut my own grass. You know, I do drink red wine. I smoke cigarettes. And I'm not giving that up to be the President of the United States."

The line got a round of applause from the audience. (end quote)

I guess people can interpret that any way they want but it appears pretty obvious to me what impression CBS News wanted to leave with the public by heading the article with: "John Boehner to Jay Leno: I wouldn't trade cigarettes for presidency"

Yep,....fair and balanced....And "News you can trust"

Would you be willing to give up your lifestyle to be President???

I agree with you 100% but CBS, like all news outlets, spin the truth. Most are very liberal sources of information.

I personally took what he said to Jay Leno at face value and didn't try to read anything into it. jmo

... And Sarah Palin never said I can see Russia from my porch. That was a SNL line, not hers.

In her Sept. 11 interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, Sarah Palin had this to say about Russia: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Is that true?

Yes. Russia and Alaska are divided by the Bering Strait, which is about 55 miles at its narrowest point. In the middle of the Bering Strait are two small, sparsely populated islands: Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States. At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart, which means that, on a clear day, you can definitely see one from the other. The Diomede Islands are often blanketed by persistent fog, which makes visibility difficult. On a clear day, though, a person standing at sea level can see a little less than three miles across the ocean. You can see farther if you go higher—at the highest altitude on Little Diomede (919 feet), you can see for about 37 miles. (Between mid-December and mid-June, when the water between the two islands freezes, an intrepid explorer can just walk from one to the other.)

The tactical importance of this proximity is debatable, however:Big Diomede has no permanent population though it does house an important weather station. Alaskans can, however, see into the future from Little Diomede since Big Diomede (or Ratmanov Island, as it's known to the Russians) is on the other side of the International Date Line.

You can also see Russia from other points in Alaska. According to a New York Times article written in the waning years of the Cold War (when the Alaska-Siberia border was known as the "Ice Curtain"), if you stand on high ground on the tip of St. Lawrence Island—a larger Alaskan island in the Bering Sea, southwest of the Diomedes—you can see the Russian mainland, about 37 miles away. The same article claims that you can see Russia from the Tin City Air Force facility at Cape Prince of Wales, which is the westernmost point of the mainland Americas. The station chief at Tin City confirms that, for roughly half the year, you can see Siberian mountain ranges from the highest part of the facility.
