Mitt Romney lashed back at Harry Reid on Thursday in an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, saying the Senate majority leader needs to "put up or shut up" after airing allegations about Romney's taxes. Reid, a Nevada Democrat, first raised eyebrows Tuesday by saying in a news interview that someone had told him Romney went 10 years without paying taxes. He would only identify his source as an investor in Romney's former venture capital firm, Bain Capital, and he acknowledged, "I'm not certain" it's true. That didn't stop Reid from taking to the Senate floor Thursday to accuse the Republican presidential candidate again of paying no taxes, part of a broader Democratic attack on Romney for declining to release more than two years of tax documents. "The word's out that he hasn't paid any taxes for 10 years," Reid said. "Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn't." But Romney forcefully denied Reid's allegations on Hannity's radio show Thursday. "Harry’s going to have to describe who it is he spoke with, because, of course, that is totally and completely wrong," Romney said. "It’s untrue, dishonest and inaccurate. It’s wrong. "So, I’m looking forward to have Harry reveal his sources, and we will probably find out it’s the White House." Romney's campaign earlier rejected the majority leader's statement as "shameful." Reid also raised eyebrows for invoking Romney's late father, himself a one-time presidential candidate. "His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son," Reid told the Huffington Post. George Romney, a Michigan governor, released 12 years of tax returns during his unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968. His son has released only his 2010 tax return and an estimate for 2011, years when he was preparing for his own presidential bid or already running. Reid doubled down on the claim late Thursday, firing back at Romney in a written statement. "People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes," Reid said in a written statement. “When it comes to answering the legitimate questions the American people have about whether he avoided paying his fair share in taxes or why he opened a Swiss bank account, Romney has shut up. But as a presidential candidate, it’s his obligation to put up, and release several years’ worth of tax returns just like nominees of both parties have done for decades. “It’s clear Romney is hiding something, and the American people deserve to know what it is." |

I guess two can play this game.
There is an unnamed source From Occidental College that Obama obtained loans and attended college as a foreign student. There is an unnamed source from CT that Obama is using an invalid Social Security card. |

And don't forget Nancy Pelosi says the tax return issue is a distraction from the real issues Pelosi: On Second Thought, This Whole Tax Returns Thing is a Distraction
Jul 19, 2012 05:41 PM EST Behold what a prominent politician's "CYA" instinct hath wrought: Facing questions about why she and other top Congressional officials won’t release their tax returns, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) downplayed her previous demands for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney to release his, calling the issue a distraction. As recently as Wednesday, Pelosi had strongly urged Romney to provide further disclosure of his tax returns. But today, while maintaining Romney should release more documents because of “custom” and “tradition,” Pelosi said the issue was trivial compared with economic issues. “We spent too much time on that. We should be talking about middle-income tax cuts,” Pelosi said after answering two questions about the issue. Pelosi even started clawing at the annoyingly inquisitive media: Pelosi also suggested that the media should face disclosure requirements. “Some people think the same standard should be held to the ownership of the news media in the country who are writing these stories about all of this. What do you think of that?” she asked. Yeah, what do you think of that, reporters? Stop asking Nancy questions about her shameless hypocrisy! It seems the former Speaker is a little jittery over the report we highlighted earlier: Nancy Pelosi was emphatic. Mitt Romney’s refusal to release more than two years of his personal tax returns, she said, makes him unfit to win confirmation as a member of the president’s Cabinet, let alone to hold the high office himself. Sen. Harry Reid went farther: Romney’s refusal to make public more of his tax records makes him unfit to be a dogcatcher. They do not, however, think that standard of transparency should apply to them. The two Democratic leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives are among hundreds of senators and representatives from both parties who refused to release their tax records.

Romney calls on Reid to reveal source as fact-check sites challenge tax claim
Romney, in an interview with Fox News, said he doesn't believe Reid has a credible source but urged the Senate Democratic leader to reveal who it is. "I don't really believe that he's got any kind of a credible source," Romney said. "I don't know who gave him this line of reasoning, whether it came from the White House or the DNC or a staffer, but he ought to say where it came from, and then we can find out whether that person has any credibility. I know they don't." He said Reid also has "lost a lot of credibility." Romney's latest comments came as two major fact-check sites knocked down Reid's comments, which the senator amplified by repeating them last week on the Senate floor. Reid has said his source is an investor with Romney's former venture capital company Bain. But PolitiFact wrote that it is "far-fetched" to believe Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. Further, the article stated the obvious -- "Reid has produced no evidence to back up his claim other than attribution to a shadowy anonymous source." PolitiFact concluded: "Reid has made an extreme claim with nothing solid to back it up." They gave the accusation a "Pants on Fire!" rating. The Washington Post's fact-check column, too, gave Reid's remark the equivalent of a "Pants on Fire!" score. The Post gave it "four Pinocchios," which is the newspaper's score for a claim they knock down. "Without seeing Romney's taxes, we cannot definitively prove Reid incorrect. But tax experts say his claim is highly improbable. Reid also has made no effort to explain why his unnamed source would be credible. So, in the absence of more information, it appears he has no basis to make his incendiary claim," the Post wrote. The White House, meanwhile, has distanced itself from Reid's remark. Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday the Senate Democratic leader "speaks for himself." House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, though, has defended Reid. She told The Huffington Post that Reid made a "true" statement. "Somebody told him. It is a fact," she said. Like other Democratic officials, Pelosi said Romney can either prove or disprove the claim by releasing more tax returns. Fox News' Carl Cameron contributed to this report. |

Or where did this kid from a poor background and a broken home get funding to attend Ivy League schools? Why hasn't Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi released their tax records. Why was John Kerry not asked to release his tax returns when he was running? Why wasn't candidate Obama vetted to the extreme detail has candidate Romney is? There are a lot of unresolved issues surrounding Obama. Birth Certificate Forgery (say what you will about conspiracy theories but there has been a lot of evidence the document he provided was a forgery and no actual evidential rebuttal) Social Security Card issues and Selective Service Registration potential forgery. |

quote: Rich, I perceive you as an intelligent guy with a lot to contribute. I personally don't read the articles you post. As soon as I see them, I skip on to the next post. Not that you would care what I do but I thought you might find an interest in the reason why. First, I don't have a lot of time for forum browsing and I am on many forums so simply the time factor is an issue. Also, I need to spend time just figuring out who wrote the article and which side of the fence it's coming from. Thirdly, I find it difficult to figure out whether it's your opinion I'm reading or that of the author due to unclear quoting. Forthly, I like to chose my own reading material and not necessarily that which is important to others. So while I would love to read your opinions, I just breeze by your article posting without even looking. JMO |
