The House just approved Rep. Mike Pence’s amendment to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, checking off a hot-button social issue even as it set up a bigger showdown over defunding the health care law.

The vote was 240-185 with 11 Democrats voting for the amendment, and seven Republicans voting against. One member voted present. A group of Republicans on the floor applauded when the vote hit 218.

Remember the old Fram Oil Filter commercial, "You can pay me now...or pay me later” , you'll be happy to know you will be paying a lot more...and I mean a lot more in the future. Congrats.

At the risk of turning this into a debate over the rights and wrongs of abortion, this defunding decision is one I'm not sure I'm all that thrilled about. While I don't care for my tax dollars going to fund abortions, I prefer that over more of my tax dollars going to fund unwanted children for the duration of their lives.

Let's face it: many (NOT ALL) users of the planned parenthood abortions are people who have no business raising children anyway. Typically lower achivers who are irresponsible in their actions and draw more from society than they contribute. If they reproduce, odds are high the result is another irresponsible individual who draws more from society than he/she contributes. That person then reproduces and so on and so on. It becomes a situation where the problem is multiplied.

It sounds harsh, but stopping the problem before it multiplies makes sense. Defunding the abortions may very well result in more unwanted children and more expense in the long run. I think this was one of those decisions based only on personal/religious beliefs and not reality.

You should received Welfare and food stamps for the first kid, maybe $ 500 a month. If you have a second child with no father, your TOTAL handout is reduce to half of what you were getting (NOT an Additional amount) and if you have three you get nothing. That would be birth control
we could afford.

I don't know, Ed. That logic works for folks like you and I, but some of the people in question don't consider that. The degree to which they can provide for their kids or if they really even should have kids isn't really considered when it's time to hop in the sack. If it was, they would use birth control of their own. It's an act now, worry about the solution later impulse.

I'm all for cutting welfare, but it's got to be in concert with something else that helps reduce the problem.

I disagree, I say give them nothing from the start.

I am for any and all birth control methods that Planned Parenthood wants to give out and would even be willing to pay for that, much cheaper than a $500.00 abortion which will affect the woman for her entire life. We also could be doing much more in our public schools to teach where babies come from since many seem not to know.
