How do you figure that? In the 1935 passage of the Social Security Act,,,,,80% of the House Republicans voted for passage, and over 70% of the Senate Republicans voted for passage.

While it is true that in the long term, Social Security is in trouble due to too many government SS jobs, and too many buildings and services to maintain. You now are paying for your parent's social security benefits,,,not your own. What the Republicans have proposed is to allow you to set up your own private plan of savings for the future. The Dems are against that proposal because they want their hands on your money, and to channel it elsewhere to spend on their multi-trillion dollar deficit spending agendas. If collected social security dollars were only kept within that specific arena, and excessive SS jobs were drastically cut, along with downsizing SS offices and wasteful spending,,,,,social security might work.

I don't now have much faith in either plan. Individuals can't seem to save their dollars for future retirement,,,and the government's record to manage our taxed dollars just doesn't happen with any success.

To the younger wage earners here,,,,you best now better start thinking ahead, and implement your own plan of savings for future retirement, jmo.
