Think about it Roger ... and while at it, post your equivalent to our Social Security number. Really, it's no big deal. |

Mine is not registered and I choose to keep it that way. I am not on Facebook either. You guys ever hear of identity theft. I have and it sucks to get it back. I went through it. The least people know about you the better. If you want to live your life being naive more power to you but you should not push people to do something they are not comfortable with. Just Sayin. |

I registered my Kat back in 2008 including the VIN but opted that the VIN was not visible to the general public. The original owner of my car from what I have heard was a member here but I don't think they registered it here. I am usually very cautious what I share and where out of concern for Identity Theft issues but more so to keep the amount of junk mail and other unwelcome solicitations to a minimum When providing information for a specific purpose I make it as clear as I am able that the information provided is NOT to be used, shared or provided to anyone for any reason. I also let some folks know up front that if contacted or solicited at a later date that I may have a tendency to react poorly. |

The very worst offenders of giving out your personal information are the three credit bureaus, Equifax, TansUnion and Experian. They are the ones who give out your information to the banks so they can send you all that junk mail about credit cards. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs

I do not have anything in my name anymore and I like to keep it that way. I do not even own my Kat. All good Padroo, just venting how I feel, tough subject that hits home for me. |

You don't have to ask for credit, they give out your name unless you put a freeze on it. If you get regular junk mail from credit card companies I guarantee you your credit information is available at those credit reporting agencies. |

I'm not registered because it asks for my name. No thanks. Plus the vin of my vehicle. I also don't want anyone having that either. As this forum is built on code that is extremely outdated, it is easily open to vulnerabilities such as getting the vin from those that prefer not to show their vin. It's bad enough the DMV has my VIN on their ancient computer system. |

If anyone sees your license plate #, they can get your name address and serial # in a minute!... What good is your 'secret' serial #? |

I wholeheartedly agree that there is waaaaay too much personal info out there. Facebook and that type of thing is just ridiculous. They ask if you know so and so and so and so in order to link you with other folks. I have access to sites that will tell me every car you have owned in the past 10 years with the plate and VIN, all of your relatives, their phone numbers, email addresses, etc. We have to pay to access it and it is restricted so that you can't just browse through it without any reason, but that doesn't mean it is never abused. The info is out there and it will all be connected to the IRS computers and the healthcare system. That said, I am not criticizing those that don't want to put up their VINs. I understand thoroughly. |

Looks like about 98% of owners in the registry have posted their VIN. I wonder how many have had a negative impact from it. My guess would be none. People can walk by your car and see your vin displayed on the dash tag. |

You guys can hem and haw all you want, it comes down to personal preference and so be it. This is really so funny to me, you guys crack me up. Do you remember when I posted that thread about posting when you are committing to but a item in the for sale section????? Remember that???? I was LAMBASTED to the wall. It was all good because I do not take things personally, not worth it. Most of the same people who LAMBASTED me feel it is OK to let the world know all there private info. Now that my friends is something to laugh about. |
