I doubt that I've missed 5 NY auto shows since I started going in the 60s... As a former C-P dealer I liked the concept car, but didn't love it...when I saw the yellow Prowler at the 1998 NY auto show I told my daughter that I was buying it right then..., I immediately spoke to the Chrysler rep at the show, told him who I was, and was given a printout of yellow Prowlers that had been ordered by local dealers ... luckily 2 of those dealers were people that I did business with, so Monday morning I made a deal and awaited delivery. Car arrived on a Friday morning and I picked it up in the afternoon (cleaned, but not prepped), brought it back Monday morning to be serviced and paid for it, then! |

Very interesting story of your yellow cat purchase. I attended the NY auto show in 1952 and saw an XK120 Jag roadster and fell completely in love. I was in the service at the time and could not afford one; however, my dream came true when I purchased a 1954 XK120 in 1957. What a great car! |

I went to my first NY AutoShow in 1996. ( take it for granted, takes about 30 minutes to get there ) When I saw it, I immediately asked the lady there about it. She said it was a concept car. Little did she know it was already being made. |

First time I saw the Prowler concept car our company was building a platform for it and the Atlantica (I think that's the correct name) concept to be on display in the infield of Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby when Chrysler was sponsoring the Triple Crown of horse racing in the mid 90's. I told Rebecca "one day" I would buy a Prowler but didn't even believe it myself at the time This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 02-22-2015 at 05:11 PM |

CJ, did you live in Cincy when the Prowler Concept was in Cincinnati? I think it was 1994? I loved it. |

I seen the concept in Indianapolis at INDIANAPOLIS RACEWAY PARK probably at the Mopar Nationals Told Sue, WE HAVE TO GET ONE IF THEY BUILD IT! Drove to Auburn when Chrysler had it there for the parade on Labor Day, just to see the car. |

Unlike some of the others I did not get to see the concept Prowler in person until the 10th Anniversary Prowler Event in 2007. I started seeing pictures of the concept car in Car Magazines and fell in Love. Then they said it was going into production. But I feared it would be out of my price range. Then the 97's came out and I heard they were selling for $80K and more, so it seemed my worst fears came true. Then I finally first saw the Prowler in person at the 1997 Atlanta Auto Show. I must have come back to look at it twenty times while I was there. I looked at the sticker of around $40K and thought to myself, I can do that. They had to clean the drool marks from the carpet around the display area after I left. I went home and showed Linda pictures but she did not like it. Then we attended an Oldies Concert in 98 which had a car show out in the parking lot. A Chrysler Dealer had a Purple Prowler there with a Prowler trailer. Linda took one look and fell in love same as me. Up until that time she had wanted me to get a street rod but after seeing the Cat there was no doubt. On of my co-workers husband was a salesman at the Chrysler Plymouth dealer. I contacted him and told him in that I would be financially able to buy a Prowler in June of 99 which would be when I would start drawing my retirement pay from IBM. He told me just to give him 45 days notice before I was ready to buy. We kept in touch during the next 10.5 months, assuring him I was serious. During the waiting period they got a 99 yellow and had it sitting on the showroom floor. I had to beg to be able to sit in it as they kept it locked. My salesman friend was not there on that particular day. I called him on April 13 1999 giving him my 45 days notice. Two hours later he calls back and says "I have your car". I was floored and told him I had to wait until June 1st when I would get my first retirement check. He said no problem we could work it out and I could get the car now and make my first payment in June. The Prowler was trucked up from Alabama and we had it two days later. Just waiting that two days after we signed the papers was pure torture. We had to pay $5k over the sticker. At the time I felt that was a good deal considering other stories I had heard. That price included a 7 year or 50K miles warranty. Sticker at the time was just shy of $40k. Driving the car off the lot as the owner was the first time I had ever driven a Prowler. I dropped the top, put Born to be Wild in the CD player and cranked up the volume as I drove off.
Head out on the highway Lookin' for adventure And whatever comes our way way" I must say it has been an adventure ever since. This message has been edited by BeWare on 02-24-2015 at 04:51 PM |

Like that color. Looks like black with a red pearl on it. Gives it that chameleon look, like Ford did with their mystic color. |

The color in the first clip is fairly accurate. The snapshot isn't even close to the color. I didn't realize the grill was that much different. |

The concept car is gorgeous. But the steering wheel is hideous. Looks like it came out of a Hino delivery truck. I love the wheels and how the center cap has a space around it. |

Yes I saw that car at the NYAS back in 93. Right on the spot, I told one of my sons that if they made that car, one would be mine. That came true in late 2001. I think I still have the handout or poster that I got from the show. Or it might have come from another show a year or two later. The show in NY is coming up soon. Need to get there. ------------------ |
