I unplugged mine when I bought new rims . (5 minute fix). I just bought another Silverado and I'm putting American Racing rims on it also (20 inch)I wanted to just remove the new tires/rim/sensors and put the new rims on without sensors. The dealer said that's not possible anymore without the GM permission. It's like disconnecting the airbags for the driver, you have to fill out forms telling why this is needed and how this could HELP someone by doing this (handicapped).I don't think my reason will fly,so I'll have to break down the original tires and rob them for the 20s. Everything is getting more and more complicated. Even the 20 inch tires have to be bought and installed without the car being visible. If the car is there the door sticker MUST be read and obeyed or someone is in trouble if an accident ever happens and this issue is brought up. http://www.carid.com/american-racing-wheels/torq-thrust-st-gray-machined-442477.html 2014 standard cab (which no one likes but me) Base Silverado. List sticker $27,230 bought for $19,888 out the door. I thought that was alot off on a base model truck.I'm happy. I need a bed lid (ARE) and wheels and rear spring shackles that lower the reare by 4 inches...then CRUISE This message has been edited by Gort on 01-24-2015 at 03:03 PM |

A while back I wanted to replace tires on one of my vehicles with an identical sized tire. The source told me they were not permitted to install the tires because they were not the exact size the vehicle was assembled with. This is all well and good for many of the morons out there that are clueless and have no comprehension of anything but there are circumstances where a substitute size may be the only option out there. Can you imagine me taking my Corvair to the same place wanting a 195/70R-70 tire and have them give me the same line. I really doubt they are going to find any new 700-13 tires out there. I wonder what they might suggest I do, scrap a perfectly good car because the exact replacement tire is no longer available. Maybe I will take the Prowler in and see if they can sell me the "Correct" tires. Idiots and Computers are slowly taking over and the computers are winning because the Idiot's don't know how to think for themselves. |

Don't blame GM, thats big brother government watching over you. I just purchased a new condo in Tn. Big brother controls how much water the toilets use, how much water pressure my shower allows, how hot I can make my shower, how many watts my light fixtures are allowed to use, and no less then 9 smoke detectors, all tied together so if one goes off they all go off & you have to find the primary offender. Bad part is you can't undo all these so called protection devices. |

quote: The smoke detectors are from hell. I've got a couple dozen and if you put new 9volt batteries in all of them and one battery only has 8.9 volts ...they chirp all over the house. You have to get giant ladders and check each battery and find the weak one,it could take all day. GFIs are another problem. The breaker type is really sensitive. The receptical type seem to work. costco was ridiculous when trying to buy tires for the prowler. Since they don't sell the run flats anymore you have to buy 4 tires for the car and one for the spare that doesn't exist. They said for them to sell me tires I would have to bring in a fith wheel and stick it in the passenger seat to put the tire on it. No thanks! |

Gort, Scald and PSI regulation is built into the primary water valve in the wall. While the house was still in studs I tried to undo these government controls, everything is fused from the factory. Plus all plastic plumbing has special unions that I have no idea how to deal with. My light fixtures actually will not allow over 100W of current. If you put a 150W bulb in the circuitry automatically cuts the voltage. Plus, all the ceiling fixtures are on some type of new Arc breaker which are super sensitive. All the electrical outlets have built in 'gate shields' you have to force the plug into. How did we ever survive the 50's & 60's? |

The house I live in was built in 1947 and remains mostly intact except for a renovation of the kitchen and only bathroom back in the early seventies. I have the original blueprints and am the second owner of the house. The coal furnace was also updated to oil then changed out to a Oil fired Hot Water Baseboard system sometime again I believe in the early seventies. My water comes from a well and the sewage goes into a cesspool system on my property. Recently the Electric Company did install a "Smart" Electric Meter that can eliminate the meter reader's job. If push comes to shove, I will be happy to drive my 1965 Chevrolet Corvair and/or my 1991 Chevrolet S-10 Pick Up Truck in order to keep "Big Brother" from keeping tabs on me through the built in vehicle monitoring systems. I have one battery operated smoke detector in the middle of the house which is within ten feet of everything except the Kitchen. I have a Co2 detector in the basement near the furnace. My thermostat is one of the old gold round Honeywell units for "Heat" only and it remains on the same setting 365 days a year. I like to keep things simple and uncomplicated as much as I am able. Most of the appliances in the house are well over ten years old, some are probably going on forty years but as long as they continue to work, I won't replace them with newer poor quality products until such time as I am forced to. Yes I can be stubborn. Wasn't this thread about tires? How did it veer off course. This message has been edited by alrtg on 01-25-2015 at 11:55 AM |
