I think I am going to leave on the rear bumpers. Mine is a 99 so the bumpers are grey. I am not keen on the grey so thinking on going black. Was the stock black bumpers a satin black or gloss black? Did the Plymouth Prowler indents in the rear bumpers come with the red stick on accents or was that a aftermarket item? The interior has the accents also around the radio, interior door pulls, around the shifter and around the air vents. Maybe someone can give me some schooling.

Bumpers were plain gray, Interior must have some mods done by the previous owner. They might be shimmers also. Hard to guess without a picture.
The pieces in the bumpers , I believe you are talking about shimmers , which used to be sold by a member here.
The 2000 & newer had a satin finish black bumpers.

LD Part # for bumper paint black is 39143 trim black mfg'd by Sem. Shimmers are still available at Prowler Store in Florida in colors you desire. These are aftermarket add on items and no did not come as original on Prowlers. Many members will not tell you about Prowler Store as they hate them. I will because I'd like to see you be able to get what you want rather than not be able to. I have a set of new black rears I'd swap you for but we live too far apart. Good luck.

LD, don't paint the grey bumpers. They are becoming scarce. Better to keep them and buy some black ones or swap silver for his.

Painted mine gloss black and they look great

All the bumpers were painted from the factory so if you paint yours or get factory black is a mute point since they could always be painted back in the future is someone ever wants a totally stock Prowler

The shimmers really pop in the script in the bumpers. Have never checked the availability since Jay stopped making they. His were high quality and been on my car probably 14-15 years.

But some owners have had them painted in. Body color or silver for dark color cars

I have a set of black 02 bumpers I would trade someone if they really wanted black over gray, but again distance to exchange would make painting better option.

I think he already has the red accents in his bumpers. Now he will have to take them out or paint over them black. Then repaint them red or find new ones.

Thanks guys, I now have the facts to make my decision. Was also thinking of making something that went into the receiver hitch, maybe a couple built in led directionals that would plug into the receiver plug. Just something I am rolling around in my head.

You are correct Gary, looks like I am going to take the accents off, paint the bumpers and I have a friend that does signs and pin striping paint them back in. Some of the accents are lifting in some areas so it does not look good anyway and the inside of the bumpers have rock damage from no mud flaps. Going with flaps all around also.

Looks kind of bulky, sticks out to far. I am looking for more of a recessed cleaner look. I have a couple ideas I need to work on.

My car is black so I painted mine gloss black as well (same as car color code) and they look great. Inserts were painted same color as one of the pinstripe colors.

The factory rear mud flaps will not protect the inside of rear bumpers. They just fill the gap between the fender and bumper.

Tom Mills at JEFFERSON Auto has front and rear mud flaps

This site can be costly, you think of something and then someone shows you a mod, then off to ordering parts and customizing begins....... LOL

I just ordered mud flaps and front turn relocation kit from Jefferson, went back and forth with Tom and put the order through Terry. Great people to deal with, they spend time explaining everything in detail.

SILVERKAT, ask around at the local cruise nights or hot rod shows. Stripiers often started as sign painters. You might be surprised who you find locally. Each year here there are dozens of pinstripers demonstrating their art at Autorama. They auction it off for a local charity. Most travel to their customer rather than maintain a shop. That's how Dr. RU that striped the Prowlers works.

Landscape doc.

I just bought my 2000 yellow cat this past July. Since getting it I have

Lowered front drivers seat (3inches)bought brackets off this site
Lambo doors--LOVE them. I stand 6'4" so between lowering of the seats, and opening increasing with lambo doors. Made it all more comfortable for me
rear chrome trans cooler cover
new stereo
right now, converting or taking off front bumpers and going with the lights from gary
also removing stock rear bumpers and going with yellow that are have prowler word painted in red.

I love everything I have done so far and love my car

I agree. They were no longer gray, as they were for `97 and `99 model year Prowlers. (There was no `98 model year Prowler.)

When "Prowler Red" was first announced to be a color choice available sometime during the `99 Prowler model year, I was ecstatic.

When later I saw, in person, how poorly anything on an OEM "Prowler Red" `99 was complemented by the discordant color of Mopar's still-gray bumpers for the Prowler, that was a "deal-breaker" for me --- despite its "Prowler Red" body color (and despite my also liking that the output of an OEM Prowler engine had been increased to 253HP as of the `99 model year, versus the 214HP it had previously).

Accordingly, I felt less than ecstatic about those still-gray `99 Prowler bumpers, and readily understand and appreciate your being "not keen" about them yourself, as you politely put it.

That aside, Landscape Doctor, I think you'll be quite pleased with the aesthetic improvement resulting from painting your Prowler's rear bumpers the OEM satin black of 2000 and newer Prowlers, or even a gloss black.

Separately, were we able to do so, I suspect it might be amusing to know the proportion of gray Prowler bumpers that have been changed to black --- versus the proportion of black Prowler bumpers that have been changed to gray.
