Was that speaker thought of as a "subwoofer?

When I replaced mine I bought the best (deepest bass response) speaker I could find. Short of adding an aftermarket subwoofer you won't get a whole lot of bass, if keeping the car original is important I say go for it.

There are no speakers( Original ) for the prowler. Unless someone has the original old one they can sell you. They were not very good .Technology in this area now is way better, Best to buy something new that will fit. robin

I don't know off hand if it was a dual voice coil or not, and I'll have to look in the garage for the box so I can get you the brand I used.

As an FYI the sound is OK but to get some true deep bass in a car like ours you'll need a real subwoofer and to tell you the truth I don't know if you'll ever get the sound you can in a hard top type car cause the enclosure helps aid the system itself. Give me til later today and I'll try and get the brand, they were off the shelf from Best Buy and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I left out the "tweeters" from the sound bar as they are more like a mid range or full range speaker and the tweeter made far too many hi's. I will drop in a full range at some point but finding something of any sound quality to fit is a hard find.

OK so the speakers I went with are Polk audio. 300 watts peak 100 watts rms at 35hz-23khz @ 4 ohms.

These are component speakers, meaning that the woofer and tweeters are separate so I didn't have to have hi's coming from the woofer location.

For those that don't know, they do make sub woofers in the 6.5" size but the depth is the problem. The only way to fit an 8 or 10" sub in the car is to add a box between the 2 seats or on the floor of the passenger seat. One won't fit under the car seats as the amp is under the passenger seat and there isn't enough room under the drivers seat unless you want to raise the seat, and I doubt you'd want to do that. I'm wondering if I could locate the amp behind the drivers seat and put a sub under the passenger seat, but I think I'll just make do with what I have, plus maybe add those full range speakers in the power bar behind the driver and passengers head.

In September of 2013 I replaced the left speaker in my '97 with an original stock unit purchased from www.wholesalemopar.com for under $100. As said by others these are older technology but I want to keep my Cat stock. If you want stock maybe they can help you.

Thank you! I installed a ken wood self contained sub between seats, not great but does add bass.

If this is the Kenwood I found online, it only will add lows like a good regular woofer as the frequency response isn't any lower than mine from Polk audio. It may add additional BASS sound but it won't be any lower in Hz.

•frequency response: 35-125 Hz
•dimensions: 11"W x 2-3/4"H x 7-1/2"D
•warranty: 1 year
