If I were looking to buy a Prowler, is there a mileage on one that would be considered too low to risk buying? Can a Prowler actually have not enough miles on it? |

The less, the better,as with any other car. The condition should be almost perfect, if not stay away from it. JMO |

In my opinion, YES there is such a thing as to little mileage. The only thing that would make me feel better about purchasing an extremely low mileage vehicle of any kind would be to show me absolute proof as to how it was stored, and all efforts to insure the vehicle remained "As New". When a vehicle sits, time still takes a toll on the components. Without preventative measures, the vehicle will without doubt deteriorate to some degree. Fluids and suspension components, rubber bushings and seals, upholstery, convertible tops etc... will all be subject to it. Even when a vehicle is stored under the ideal circumstances, it still needs to be exercised once in a while. It needs in my opinion to be started, warmed up, and run at least once a month. With this in mind, a car taken out and driven ten miles each month would accumulate 120 miles annually. Ten years it could see 1,200 miles and 15 years 1,800 miles. An average car probably gets driven between 15,000 & 20,000 miles annually which means a ten or fifteen year old car could have 150,000 to 300,000 miles on it and still be considered low or average miles for it's age. For some reason people have decided that extremely low mileage is desirable when looking to purchase a vehicle. If you are looking for a money pit that will only be looked at in a garage or museum, that is your choice to make. If I were looking for something to be driven or enjoyed on any regular basis, I myself would stay away from the low mileage vehicles and spend less for something I can drive. Everyone's opinion is going to be different. In the end all you can do is what makes you comfortable. |

I felt "safe" buying my '99 Red one with 25k miles for $27,000. It is a driver. I am in-between useable investment, and driver. I looked at a Mulholland with 68,000 miles for $25,000, but was scared of the mileage..(For what I was looking for). It's all in what you want. Hell, a New Chevy Tahoe is $55,000. If you want to drive a car EVERYDAY, and be the coolest, get one with high mileage for $20K??? Hope this helps, and good luck!!! Andy |

It all comes down to if you want a garage queen or a driver. I was looking for a very good condition driver with great bones to start with. This is a brief description of the 99 red I just bought. 99 red, 15,203 miles, all documented records of maintenance, came with complete shop manual, ball joint recall done, rims pealing, sway bar links shot, hood shocks shot, paint is perfect except for some scuff marks under nose, tranny is wet but not bad though-going to install the vent plug, top is perfect, interior is perfect, a built in fuzz alarm was installed but wiring is abit shabby, a ooo haa horn was installed but wiring is shabby, brakes are excellent. The guy wanted $29,000 and I ended up paying $24,300 after I got done with him. I thought I did OK. My budget is $30,000 so that gives me $5,700 to make it the way I want. I can not wait to start in on it over the winter. I love this car and am so exited to get in the drivers seat next summer. This message has been edited by Landscape Doctor on 10-28-2014 at 09:07 PM |

I wouldn't buy it if it had less than 150,000 miles on it Terry. You can't be sure until then. JMO |

Both 2000 Prowlers have had 34,000+ miles and both engines run perfect and both had very few problems. If you want a trailer queen go for the low miles, want a fun driver go for more miles. At 34K on my 2000 that is only about 2,400 a year. My 2003 Cad Escalade has 175,00 on it right now and it runs and drives perfect and I think I will put at least another 100K on it. |

By the time you make any money on it, you won't need the money anyway. Drive it and have fun with it, $ Priceless $. Ask the guy you bought it from how his investment worked out for him. |

He said he bought it for an investment for his son. I'm sure his son will see a profit. For those who like to drive their cars, good for you! Drive as much as makes you happy. Those who bought their cars for their own reasons don't need others telling them to drive it and have fun with it. We are old enough to decide for ourselves what makes us happy. JMO |

Well said beachcat....that was my sole and only intentions when I bought my prowler was to leave it to my first born ...with me getting very little to almost no enjoyment out of it.Just want him to remember me in that way...we both love cars... |

Hmmm. I am thinking of leaving my kat to my four kids. First, I am going to "run the wheels off it," then decide which wheel to give to each one; the remains I will be buried in, and the trailer will make a nice flower planter. So much for being funny, now who would "really" like to buy a nice Black Tie with matching trailer and, by the time I sell it, will have 35,000 plus miles on it? I am half serious as I just turned 84 two days ago and not trusting myself driving faster than my age. |

Jerry, I want to be just like you when I grow up. Still having some fun at 84. Keep those cars with the low mileage, I might need to buy another one before I die. |

Enjoy your Prowler how ever you like, I wasn't trying to tell you how to drive it, just that it might not be a good investment. I have many cars with low miles I use for different things. |

Low mileage is good...but I would be wondering if it had the front ball joint recall performed on it. If someone just had it sitting in a garage, they may not have had it done. By the way, I had mine done back when the recall first happened all those years ago. A couple of months ago I had to have it done AGAIN. When they put my car up on jacks they said the front wheels were literally about to fall off and I was lucky to be alive. So my advice to everyone here is to have your ball joints checked again. I have no idea why these particular ball joints are so prone to failure. Never heard of that happening in other cars the way it seems to happen on the Prowler,. |
