I would be curious. I have noted that several people have listed their Prowlers for sale recently and the prices seem to be from about $25K to $35K. The book value shows closer to $20K which is alarming at best. I would love to know what prices have been received and what prices have been paid for recent sales of Prowlers. I have made the decision to sell mine but I am in no rush and I am not in anyway desperate. I am simply not using it and at 3,200 miles it should be driven more. I am also going to sell the Delorean with 12,800 miles on it. Anyway, I have seen several squirrels lately, that are professional "tire kickers," that are not actually serious about buying anything more than a leaf blower. They seem to be more interested in rhetoric rather than true discussions about a legitimate purchases. In any case, I am still more than curious to understand the true value of our cars. I want to be fair with my price. Just for sake of example, mine is original, with the chrome transmission cover, ceramic brakes, wind suppressor (brand new), iPod modification, new Kappa Speakers all around, new hood lifts and wheels and center caps that are not flaking or falling off. The car is in very good condition and I am thinking $32K but I am not sure that this is the correct price. The top has never been put up and it has always been garaged. Thoughts? Your price is on the high side but not unreasonable. You just need to find the right buyer. With time on your side you may get your price. The cruising season is getting short here so you might expect to wait until next spring rather than take a lower price during the off season. |

If you're not desperate and in no rush... List it for $32-35000 and see what happens. You HAVE to ask more than you want, because everyone wants to bargain and 'save' some $. You can always reduce the asking price, it's a little bit harder to increase it.

Here is the Hagerty car value guide. Looks like the Prowlers are starting to increase in value. There is a big difference in price due to condition.

Prowler's are not your everyday normal car. Most people buying them don't need them and they are not collectors. So they don't have to buy just like you don't have to sell. Price, condition, mileage, color and mods all come in to play. There are many out there for sale in all above catagory's, so buyers and sellers have to meet in the middle somewhere. Most sellers think they cars are worth more and most buyers think they can find a better deal. Sooner or later they meet up and a transaction is made. The farther your price is from the middle, the longer it takes to sell. If your not in a hurry to sell, keep your price where your at, if you want it gone, lower it a little. Efrem just posted on another thread he bought a Silver with 1650 miles for $24000, there are always deals out there from someone who is in a hurry to sell. |

Old Man Stern,,,I don't think you are asking 'too high',,,but $31,900 sure sounds better than $32K. Let me ask you this........where are you advertising the cat 'for sale'? Just here at the POA? If so,,yes, you'll get the tire kickers looking here....'something for nothing' mostly. Your cat is a exception buy....very low mileage/use,,,nice wheels, like new top, driven by a old fart, etc. You should be running ads in: eBay is another possibility,,,,but I'm not familar with their system enough to say its a good place to advertise? Good luck with your sale,,,,,there is a sucker for every seat AND the car is WORTH what it will bring in CA$H, TODAY! BTW,,,what is your price on the DeLorean? Buy it new? Details? A-Cat |

I think what you are asking for the Prowler is a fair price, maybe a little low. The mods done to a car may not increase the value, it's a matter of taste. You and the buyer might have a different opinion of the mods. For a collector, it's all about originality. |

Yes as Garysss stated I just purchased a 2001 prowler with 1,650 miles on it for $24,000...so you're hearing it straight from the horse's mouth.It's a one owner vehicle with a clean title...my vin number is on the registry to verify its history for the non believers lol...if I could post the bill of sale I would.my prowler was a private party owner..i don't think would have been as great through a dealership...my advice take your time and don't rush. quote: |

I would advise to post it on eBay. There are a lot of folks looking there. Their chunk can be a bit pricey, however. April is the time to sell to most of the country but in Cal. it is probably a good time at any time. Around the Midwest we are thinking it is Sept. and it won't be long until the leaves fall and the snow starts so a convertible, especially a two seater isn't on the radar for MOST folks. GOOD pictures on eBay definitely helps. |

One problem for someone shopping is you can't go to the next dealer down the road to compare prices and the condition of the car. People shopping on the internet see the same car different colors and they all look good by the pictures so price is the only difference. I bought my Prowler on eBay almost four years ago on Christmas day. The dealer I bought from puts the best pictures I have seen on his website and that is what made me buy that particular car. |

I bought my red '99 with 24k miles on-line 2 months ago for $27k. In pictures, the vehicle looked "excellent". Upon delivery, the vehicle looked "good". I am still unable to be in a sitting position since...... (lesson learned). Andy Chrome peeling from all wheels 3 dents r/f door tire sensor light on black front bumpers/grey rear bumpers one hazy headlight lens etc,etc,etc..... |

Mr. A-Cat, I have not really taken any serious steps toward selling the Prowler yet. It has been more of a casual approach as I am not sure that I shall actually do it. The same holds true for the Delorean except......if you do not drive this car regularly, you will have fuel issues as it has a high pressure injection system. I have probably spent in excess of $6K keeping the system free of ethanol issues. It runs beautifully and just needs to be driven more. Mine is stock, which is unusual and has about 13,000 miles. It has been professionally maintained (DMC LA) and is totally up-to-date and in perfect shape. It looks and smells brand new. The only "mods" have been factory recommended mods and changes to some of the electrical issues with modifications that are industry accepted. It also has new tires as the originals were so far out of date that they scared me. With the low mileage, original condition and overall history, I am thinking that it is a $35K car so, I am rather resolute that it will be priced in the mid 30K's. You would look rather dashing in this piece of Irish history so, send a check and come pick-up the machine. I have owned this car since about 1988 when I bought it from San Diego Children's Hospital. It had been donated by Delorean's wife Christine and had about 3,000 miles on it. It had never been registered so legally, I was the first owner. Dew Drop wants a new Z51 Corvette Convertible so garage space is at a premium. She currently has a 1998 Corvette convertible with 24,000 miles on it so she does not drive it too much. She says, "time for a new one and, get all that garbage of yours (Prowlers, Delorean and 2 MGB's)out of the garage so that she has somewhere to park it!" BTW,,,what is your price on the DeLorean? I paid $22,000 for my 99 red with 20,300 miles. Car is in excellent shape all the way around BUT I did have to spend $1800 to get the HVAC working correctly. This was from a private party who had just bought his wife a Mercedes and did not want 3 car payments. He was the second owner and had only had it for just over a year. Clay ------------------ |

Bought my current 2000 off a dealer (NJ) for 23K. It needed 2 new front tires and about $1,500.oo in general small parts replaced and a little work here and there. It has 31K miles and runs good. Has nice GPS and stereo upgrades.Original top and paint are very good. This is my second Prowler and I plan on keeping this one until I can't get in or out of it, just turned 71 this week. Maybe I'll piss everyone off and be buried in it! |
