I have had similar issues with my inside rear view mirror.

When out for a drive it works just fine then I will make a stop for fuel or anything else then when I get on the road again the display is gone.

Shutting the car off and starting it again seems to resolve the problem immediately so I have yet to investigate any further.

P.S.

My Kat lived in Texas early in it's life, maybe it's a Texas thing.

Had similar issues but gauges also weirded out. Cleaned ground cable from battery to frame cured mine. BTW I like to cruise with parking lights on and that dims the mirror's display to a point that I can't see ( hate that).

I think mslc10 is talking about his mirror display lighting dimming down (which is normal),,,which isn't adjustable like the dash gauges are.

Bob,,,I've had that similar situation happen,,,comes and goes

Have a mirror display compass that will 'not re-set'....tried the manual procedure but doesn't help. Any ideas?

Bob i had this happen last year. I figured out it was from my Garmin gps being on the front window too close to the mirror. Do you have anything near the rearview mirror?

I am with you Wildcat Larry, I couldn't figure out why everyone thought the new mirror was so nice, UNTIL I got the Candy and then I really missed it in the other ones. My truck is fairly bare bones so it doesn't have any gadgets and I sometimes miss the thermometer, etc in that also.

On my 2000 I inadvertently discovered that there is an "extra" position on the rheostat built into the headlight switch.

If you turn the headlight switch knob from dim to bright and go further, it typically turns the courtesy lights on.

What I discovered was there are actually two positions. The first position will make the instrument lighting and rear view mirror lights brighter so they can be easily seen during daylight hours and the second position illuminates the courtesy lights.

First thing I'm doing when I get my Kat Friday is remove that giant rearview mirror and replacing it with a smaller less heavy one.
So mine will be for sale if anyone wants it. It's off a 2001

As additional information:

When I first discovered about the two positions on the switch I was concerned that I might somehow run the battery down so I experimented with it and found that it did not drain the battery when in the first position.

Sunday I started my Kat after a four month nap and it fired off on the first crank so I am confident it doesn't drain the battery.

The mirror computer readout will go blank if the signal is dropped from the BCM or Communication Bus. For this to happen is rare but if it continues you might want to check the connector plug behind the mirror.

And went back out! I wonder if it has anything to do with the dreaded gas cap engine light

I wouldnt think the ck engine light would have anything to do with it. But mine has been on since I got the car over a year ago. And my mirror hasnt hickup'd again since the first time.
