Hello Guys, my name is Franc and I am living in Germany. You might know the country without general speed-limit. ;-) I think about buying a Prowler for cruising on the weekends. But I am a bit of confused about the "luggage compartment". I think about something similar to the rack which can be seen on some early C3-Corvettes or on some of those Mazda MX5. Sometimes I do a weekend-trip with my wife and we are carrying a bit more than a toothbrush and fresh underwear with us. What do you recommend how to manage this? As there are only few Prowlers in Germany, I never had the opportunity to take a close look at the trunk and the trunk-lid. Please do not tell me to get one of those trailers. Sorry, that´s not what I want. Waiting for your suggestions Thanks and Regards |

Hello Frank, Do a "search" for " The Transporter" and you will see a add-on trunk made by Jim Sutton in Ocala, Florida. It is a quality product hand made by a first class gentleman. I just bought one and it looks fantastic! God bless, Andy Hello Guys, my name is Franc and I am living in Germany. There is plenty of room to pack for a long weekend. You just have to use soft luggage. Good luck with your purchase. |

Franc, here is the underside of the prowler trunk lid, without the carpet liner. You can see the support frame. I personally don't think you would have a problem supporting a rack if you can find one to fit. I think it would look pretty cool too. You would need to do a little engineering. Here is a rare look into the closed trunk from behind the seats.Only about 8" of clearance in there. And most of it is on a 45 degree downward slope. Thank you all for the quick responses. But the rack mentioned is not what I mean. I found an old fred from 2007 discussimg the same topic: I´m afraid, the only way is D.I.Y. and drilling some holes into the trunk-lid, even if it hurts. But as I will need some more months to collect enough money, maybe there comes a solution somehow... Regards |

DO NOT DRILL THROUGH TRUNK LID. You will find better alternative in time. |

Do an Ebay search for "chrome luggage rack" or "car luggage rack" and you will see some nice possibilities. Many of them are for bikes but I found a few for cars. |

The trunk lid is aluminum. I am not sure it would support much weight. |

Here's one I have. In viewing, please read the comments posted about it. Maybe something similar will help or you could easily have one made to better conform and work better for you. http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/003239.html |

Using soft luggage and some creative thinking, I can pack enough clothes for several days into the car. |

Put a couple of pairs of underwear in a zip lock bag, some socks in another one, etc and stuff them behind the seats and under the seat. Pack in small bags to put in the trunk and you can do it. |

If anyone knows how to pack, it would be Ed. Just don't get too near to him after the third day. |

Even with a 15 pound nitrous bottle in the storage area we could fit enough clothes for a road trip in there using black garbage bags and small soft sided luggage. Like Ed said - you would be amazed how many items you can fit behind the seats. For Prowler events, cleaning supplies, towels, etc. became an issue and we eventually got a trailer but for weekend or several day get-a-way trips we could make due without the trailer. |

Thanks for the replies. Dont worry, I won´t drill any holes in the lid. I Think, I prefer a solution similar to this one. But two of the "clamps" should be on the top edge and one on each side of the lid. Probably I need to get a cheap used one and do some cutting, welding, testing, cutting again, weld again ... As soon as I will find a good solution/position, I need to do it again with proper parts. Regards |

One thing to be cautious about would be the possibility of the deck lid becoming dented at the points of contact. This of course would depend on just where the points of contact are located. I suspect some places would be more susceptible than others. Again, just a word of caution. |

If you mount something like you suggest, besides damaging the fragile trunk lid, you would obstruct your rear vision. No short cut here. Install a trailer hitch and get a luggage rack for it. In the long run, this will be less expensive than repairing a damaged deck lid. |

I have the trailer but I'm finding it overkill as a weekender. I am considering a hitch mounted cargo hauler for short trips. I could find only one lightweight aluminum model that comes in black. It weighs only 22 pounds. It costs only $150. http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-n-ride-carrier.htm A weatherproof cargo bag designed for the carrier is $60. http://www.discountramps.com/cargo-carrier-bag.htm The cargo carrier requires a 2" hitch so you need an adapter. An adapter with a riser (so the carrier rides a little higher) is $45. http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-riser.htm This can serve the purpose I think for around $300 and its lightweight enough to still have over 60 pounds of storage ability within the 100 pound tongue limit. |

I have always been concerned that a cop, who has a bad day, may stop and ticket you for concealing the license tag while using a luggage rack. Be sure you know the law as "ignorance of the law" is no excuse. |

These are the bags I use when I don't want to use my trailer. I place my clothes in them and they lay nicely ,and when I get to my hotel I just place everything in my duffel bag . http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10006747&N=&Ntt=space+bags |
