Very sad news to report from Auburn Hills: At the end of December, 2012, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) will cease to exist. At the same time, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum will be closed to the public. The Museum will continue to be available for rental for private events until the end of February, 2013. At that time, the building will ...undergo renovations and be converted to corporate use. The approximately 67 vehicles in the Museum Collection that were donated by the Corporation when the Foundation was established will be sold / transferred back to the Corporation. There will be a press release issued in the next day or two. On a personal note: I have been a volunteer at the Museum since July of 1999, two months before the Museum opened to the public. When I began working at the Auburn Hills Headquarters in 1997, I watched the construction of the building and couldn't wait to be involved in the Museum activities. I volunteered frequently until I retired in 2001 after 37 years with the company. After I retired, I spent many quality hours at the Museum as a volunteer. I even served on the staff twice: 18 months as the Financial Analysis / Accounting Manager and 13 months as the Gift Shop Manager. The closing of the Museum leaves quite a void in my life. This from Mr. Roe Green |

Sorry to hear this Dave, I have only been once for the 10th Anniversary, but enjoyed it. This is a big loss for chrysler. |

I've known this for a couple of weeks now but could not talk about it until it was official. My contact at the museum shared with me that Chrysler will be buying back from the foundation all of the cars. The money the foundation receives will be used for charities. Preliminary plans are that there will most likely be a small collection of cars still on display on one of the three levels. Most likely rotated like they do now. It is a shame for sure especially for the staff and volunteers.. I am saddened also as I spent a fair amount of time volunteering there also and holding Prowler events also. As time goes on she will update me. |

Catfish. Fiat had nothing to do with it. It was a decision made by Chrysler LLC's Board of Directors and the foundation. When the Walter P. Chrysler Foundation (Museum) was established they were given a timeframe to become solvent on their own. Unfortunately, this was not accomplished. |

So when they sell back all the cars back to Chrysler, what will Chrysler do with them? |

Most likely store them. Use them for events and things like that. Hard to say. |

I always wanted to visit the Chrysler museum. One of those thing that you talk about but never seem to fit it into the schedule. I might have to plan an emergency trip to Detroit some time in December. |

I have been to the museum more than a few times. Yet I have somehow always managed to just miss seeing the Howler. Someday somehow I hope I will. At least I got seen to see the original Prowler concept at the 2007 Party. I have seen the Copperhead concept twice. I even got to sit in it. |

-- I was there ones, with my silver 01 PROWLER in 2004. Great Museum !!!
Here in Germany its the different way. More and more car museum´s are open every year. Chevrolet outruns Chrysler soon on the european market, I think. They have all kinds of cars, small city rides, to corvette and the new camaro. All cars are offical sold over here. Lots of Mopar Products ( Ford too) are not sold official in Europe. -- |

I haven't been able to fit a visit into my schedule. Perhaps we should get a group to meet there before it closes! |

I'm looking at Dec 8,9 &10. Still not sure I can swing it because I have a trip planned the following weekend. Seeing the Howler would be nice but it's not a deal breaker. |

The Museum is a wonderful place. The Howler is not currently on display there. Now is a great time to visit. Their annual Christmas display is cool. There are period decorated Christmas trees and period clothes to coincide with cars from different years. Well worth the visit. |

The Chrysler Museum has always been a great place but most especially around the Dream Cruise. CJ always made the museum a part of Prowlers at Woodward. Here are a few memories that stick out in my mind: |

I didn't get there as often as I would have liked. Never was able to get the hood opened on the 1928 Plymouth to compare it to mine. |
