Not a prototype, not worth $350k, and if it fairs only half as good as Tulsa's last attempt to bury and then unearth a car ... might be worth < $2k !! |

This was a pre-production car that traveled around with the Prowler road show or whatever they called it. I believe CJ received her first Prowler ride in this very same car. Is it worth $350K, I doubt it, although it does have some history to it. As this car is actually not buried underground but stored in a earth covered vault sealed and filled with inert gas. My guess it it will come out looking much better than Miss Belvedere did in 2007. But I likely won't be around to see it. |

quote: Best check your post as the Prowler group was there to witness this, I saw the car being put in the tomb, & it was not in or around any building. It was sealed & welded shut, It is connected to several tanks that is suppose to keep pressure in the tomb to prevent leaks. When they unearthed the 1957 Plymouth, It was a disaster. |

The car is in a park in Tulsa in an aluminum above ground vault that was welded shut and filled with nitrogen. The car is a 1999 pre-production engineering mule owned by Chrysler because it isn't a legal car. It was used on Power Tour and included duty on Woodward in August,1997 where Jerry gave CJ her first Prowler ride. We only know that because Jerry was kind enough to tell CJ which car he had given her a ride in. And do these cars really cost that much? Yes, and sometimes more depending on how early in the development cycle they are built. |

quote: Good info and clarification Bob. I still think the question of "worth that much" is a valid one ... "cost that much to build", as an early engineering car versus a production car, sure, but worth it when it comes out of the ground ... we'll see (well, I won't but my kids may). |

The Prowler group went to Tulsa years ago & witnessed all this, Take a look at the headlights, They are alot narrower than the Prowler came out with, along with the rims that were put on the car. Maybe Bob can fill us in about the differece between the actual Prowler that was sold by Chrysler & this car, as I am sure there are other items that did not go into production. |

As Bob said......it was a prototype. Meaning that it was used for testing, etc. There were some changes made when the vehicle actually went into production, which happens all the time. And yes, I did get my first Prowler ride in the car that is buried in Tulsa. I was working for the motorsports company at that time and we had our display at the Chrysler dealer on Woodward. Jerry was giving rides up and down Woodward and pretty much dragged me out of the display to go for a ride!!! lol! Here are some photos of the concept vehicle at Autorama and the Plymouth Prowler Road Show that I managed through my job at TMG Sports Marketing. That was the weekend I got my first ride at Woodward. http://www.prowleronline.com/scrapbook/neweventview.php?id=253

from what i read after the initial unveiling the prowler was to be buried in the floor of one of the city buildings whis was still under construction with a pleiglass cover so you could walk over it and see it,guess they changed the plan. ------------------ |

Is this the same car they used to show in the 1996 autoshow in NY? If it is, I have a picture of it at the autoshow. That's when I fell in love with this car. If I m not mistaken the lady, at the show said it was a "concept car". |

I don't think this is the car from the auto show, as Bob said this is a pre 1999 mule, not a pre 1997 mule. The pictures CJ posted are of the prototype, you will notice no door handles, smaller bumpers, smaller headlights, ribbed wheels and more. The Tulsa Prowler has all looks of the regular production prowler, there might be some differences, but I can't see them. |
