It's not easy to siphon gas out of a car anymore. Tried on a few but couldn't get a drop. Not like the old cars. Still have no electric from the storm. Need gas for the generator for heat. Not complaining. Could have been a lot worse. Found out that you can siphon gas from a Prowler. Not easy but I got some. |

They usully install a plastic ball in the inlet pipe, should the car flip over, the ball seals the pipe & will not come out the inlet pipe. Makes it almost impossible to siphon gas unless you remove the hose itself. You should keep an old A/C hose from a set of gauges, that will thread on the fitting under the hood, That way you could attach the hose to the fuel rail & turn the key on, You should be able to get appox 1/2 gallon each time you reset the key & pump it directly into a gas can. phil2237- I tried your trick some years ago. Results were not good on a typical GM vehicle. Only got about one oz until the pump cut off due to no motion at crank sensor. I don't believe you can trick the software, but if any one has please chime in cuz its a great idea. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure if i will have to try them. Still have no electric. 10th day running the generator to keep the house warm. Hopefully we will get our power back before I run out of gasoline. Gas lines are crazy. About 1/4 mile long. |

OK I tried to get some out of my Prowler to fill my scooter, I used a 5/8th hose and could not suck hard enough to get gas up the hose and flowing. I went to Home Depot and picked up some 1/4" ice maker hose for a freezer and had no problem at all getting the flow going, unleaded taste great in the morning! Took a few minutes to get 1 gal out but it was easy as pie and look forward to doing it again, I rather enjoy riding past those long gas lines on my scoot! My dad taught me to "Always be prepared" go Marines! |

quote: Some scanners will over ride the computor, If you have good scanner, Try it. With the scanner, you can pump out appox 4 gallons, Just tried it on my Prowler. I have a Snap On one, You can over ride the pump by putting the scanner in fuel pump mode testing, Keeps the pump on appox 2 minutes. It's a pain, but if you need gas , try it. |

Didn't need the Prowlers gas after all but I appreciate the sugestions. Will keep them in mind for the future. Hopefully I don't have to try them out. On day #13 we got our power back. The little Coleman generator worked great & was put away hopefully for a long time. That was rough. Its amazing how much we rely on electric. There are still thousands without there power. At least the weather warmed up a little bit and the gas lines aren't as bad. P. This message has been edited by Zapcopd on 11-12-2012 at 12:19 PM |

FYI, I don't know how the fuel supply system works on a Prowler but if it's anything like a mid 80's Ford I had there is a constant supply of fuel being pumped from the tank and any unused fuel is sent back to the tank. If you cut that return line and started the engine you'd have a healthy flow into any can you wanted. I found out after hitting something in the street one night and it broke the line. All you need to is fix the cut line when done. Another solid option is (if the money is in place) a NG/Propane gen set that hooks right to your home gas supply, if the lights go out they don't as the gen set kicks right in. |
