Tires have been talked about many times and assume that you loose a tire and you are many miles from home. What is the quickest way to get a replacement and get back on the road. The rear 20 inch tire size isn't common. Another scenario, what if you ruin a wheel, say it is damaged beyond any repair and you are many miles from home. Is there a steel rim that will fit the front and rear that you could have a tire mounted and get home? It would be nice to know the answers before something happens. Then again I think I just gave some people reason to worry! |

Thats a tough one Dale. You might find a donut tire/wheel that would work on the front. Hell it might even fit in the trunk. But the rears are an issue. I know from personal experience that you can go with a 295 45 20 which is a more popular size. But I think you would have to replace both sides to keep the sizes the same or damage the tranny ( even if it's a short distance). I'm not sure about that. Maybe catfish or one of the other tech guys will chime in.
1. carry a small compressor and plug kit. 2. Have an internet plan on your iPhone. When you get into trouble, get on this website and put out a call for help. Chances are you will have a member on site within a couple of hours to help you. I know in Southern Ontario you would, complete with a loaner wheel and tire. the tires and wheels were discontinued,so finding replacements will take more than a couple days.if it happened on a sunday you could be really screwed. ------------------ |

Just before I left for my recent, and uneventful 2000 mile trip, I gave a close friend of mine the garage door opener and placed replacement spare tires (yes, I do have extra Prowler tires) in the bed of my truck with money and directions to the nearest Fed Ex in case I had a problem on the road. This way, he could send me tires over night to whatever lay over I would have to make. Yes, I carry a compresser and plug kit in case the tire is fixable. "Happy trails." |

Does anyone still make a 20" runflat tire that fits the Prowler just right? A plug works most times but that is scary. |

I agree with catfish, you would have to have the car towed to get it to a safe place and I do like JerwaneW idea of having a spare ready but now what about a bad wheel. Surely a standard steel rim from some car with the same bolt pattern would fit. If you knew what would fit you could get the car back on the road and at least get it home. It would definitely be ugly. I don't think the diameter would matter that much unless it has a posi traction rear end in it. Those donut tires don't look as big as a standard wheel. For emergency,,, 20" Dodge Challenger SRT8 Charger Wheel Rim might work with slightly smaller width tire size. |

the donut tire would only work on the front.I would still like to hear, from someone who knows our tranny, if using a different size rear tire, on one side only, would damage anything. anyone? |

whne I had my wheels out to be chromed and needed to move the car went to tire shop and said, give me a wheel as standard 15" wheel will not clear upper control arm 15" with a lot of offset will work since mike Krehel used them with slicks on his Fastest Prowler I used a 17" wheel it is the smallest wheel that will clear the upper control arm So if you happen to be out, too far to get what you need, no Prowler owner close to help with a spare wheel tire combo a 17" wheel will work. As far as getting one tall enough or if 2 different size would do damage, I don't know. I had matching wheel & tire on the rear of my car ------------------ |

what makes you think a diff.size tire would damage something, maybe if you put a go kart tire on it.a prowler has a open rr.end,if you know what that is. ------------------ |

If I were close to home a roll back would be the most practical choice but I am talking about being on a long trip. The wheel I am talking about would only be used as a temporary spare not meant for extended use. I went on tire racks website and asked them the question and I hope they don't blow the whole thing off. Here is some info I got on a web search and I think it was an old post from the POA. Front - 17X7 ½ 31mm offset |

Am I going crazy or did a post disappear? Someone posted an analogy comparing using a different size tire on one side, to driving a car on a continuous curve. I wanted to thank them for clearing up that issue in my mind. |
