I don't need much more speed just enough to beat a stock one! I think it needs to sound like a roadster. This message has been edited by vic4yachts on 03-30-2012 at 10:35 AM |

a inexpensive way is to take the stock muffler off and use a 1 1/2" hole saw drill through the 3 baffle plates inside the muffler on the 2 inlets... then use a coathanger with a hook bent on the end and fish out all the insulation.... great sound, performance wise for speed you would have to go with a supercharger or turbo to get anything significant... Belanger headers would get you about 12 HP... |

Thanks! That sounds like a cheaper way to address the sound. Is it real loud or just better and tolerable? What about a cam to make it sound a little hotter? |

For a slight power increase & great sound look into Sweet Thunder mufflers. There's the aluminized 18" X-pipes on mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89RWlZUFm9w Sweet Thunders are at: |

Vic, Our engines are modern dual over head cam, 4 valve motors. You won't get the loopy idle of a push rod 2 valve OHV motor. The OHV motors of past used performance cams with higher valve lift, longer duration, and valve overlap. It really created a idle instability issue that every US red blooded male loves the sound of. A Harley v twin has a similar sound. Some headers are around for the prowler, but they won't accomplish what you desire. The sweet thunder is a very nice alternative. I went with the 24" and am very pleased. A sound engineer may be able to explain why humans (males# prefer hearing third #odd) order harmonic distortion vs even order distortion. Westech Automotive in Silver Lake Wisconsin made cams for the Prowler. I had three different sets of cams in my Westech stroker engines and the last one did have a nice lope at idle. Stainless Works in Arkon Ohio area also makes headers for the Prowler. |

i have headers from Dean at prowlerpro. nice sound when coupled with the SSS muffler made by Jay. the mufflers are no longer made but i believe that Dean still makes the headers. |

the header price is not worth the hp gain, about 7hp.the prowler has very efficent headers to start with.comp cams use to make a cam but were discontinued a long time ago.you be better off with a set of gears. ------------------ |

I talked to an owner in North Florida that is still trying to trick his computer into working properly with the gears. He made it sound extremely complicated. |

quote: Sounds as if this owner did not buy the complete set up. My gears and the attachment to the transmission control module were installed late at night on ramps in a parking lot at the Prowler Smokie Mountain Event nearly ten years ago and have worked perfect ever since. Hands down the best performance mod for the money. This message has been edited by BeWare on 04-01-2012 at 09:07 AM |

If you are talking about Terry in North Florida, he finally got it to work with the gears. Everything is fine now. It was an after market module. |
