Hello everyone, I am about to purchase my first Prowler, 2001 w/5k miles and found out the shocks are leaking and the dealer will not replace at their cost. Question- Should I go ahead and buy it or not? I was hoping to get it tomorrow (Saturday 3/31) but not sure if I should go through with it or not. Really appreciate any/all feedback!! My opinion is... there's other's out there that aren't leaking. I would look around (just my viewpoint) |

2001 & 2002 models had Dynamic shocks, which almost always leaked I believe. Had to replace them on my 2002. Older models have Konis. I think the dealer would be selling you an unsafe car if you're riding on the front springs only. Probably the rears also leak. |

I wouldn't let that stop you from buying but use it as a bargaining tool to reduce the price by say double the shock replacement cost.I would reduce the price by $1000 for the the front shocks. |

Tks for feedback. They will not budge from there 31k price even though they listed it on the web for 29.5 and then said it was a mistake. I read alot about the Shocks issue. Questons I have: |

Not sure about that dealer with all that is stated... be careful.... Koni shocks are available and they will rebuild them if required.... don't put General Dynamics on even if they are new... they are junk... keep looking, your dealer is being unreasonable... just my opinion |

The Konis aren't prone to failure as far as I know but I believe they will rebuild their shocks for you. Just do it in the off season because it takes a while. I would never replace the shocks with more GDs If they are being that inflexible, I would move on. There are many great prowlers available at that price. |

I don't know if you saw this one: http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-Chrysler-Prowler-Baltimore-d178_L14959#listing=31027646 It needs a turn signal kit. |

I'm in Maryland also. If dealer is selling this, it has to be inspected and leaking shocks won't pass inspection. It's sounds like they know you want it bad and are taking advantage of you. I would more on or back off and wait for them to call you. |

good point by Gary... they would have to replace them before it leaves the lot, I think the dealer smells blood... when they call back tell them you are going to look at one that is $4000 less than their price.... that will sharpen them up... good luck |

Make sure you have the lower price printed out. Price seems a bit high as well I would keep looking. Great cars are available in this economy and at a better price. You are here for a good reason, to learn about the cars There are too many private owners wanting/needing to sell their car. Don't worry that it might be cross country, fly out drive it home. There are enough of us that KNOW the cars well that would look at a car for a owner to be. They are right about the newer shocks, need to do good cop bad cop when looking at a car. Have someone to point out the bad and keep everyone grounded. there are plenty for sale walk away if it doesn't sell right. NO WAY WOULD I PAY MORE THAN LISTED ON INTERNET. I would print it off and send it to your local attorney general, let them know you are doing this too. There are laws to protect the buying public against crooks. Check out the yellow one that John Collins (onecatnodog) has listed for a friend of his. The money you save could pay for the plane ticket, get John to do a photo shoot before you leave and then have the ride of your life on your trip back home. I believe my friend Dave Ridge still has his 1999 yellow for sale, KONI shocks too. It has 58,000 miles and a few mods but everything to put back to stock, asking price was $24,000. Fly to Punte Gorde, Fl driv back up the coast. Dave is a car guy that keeps his cars great shape. Has his one owner 64 Avanti with 190,000 miles that looks restored but just a well maintained car. Take note "WALK AWAY, WALK AWAY REAL FAST" I have owned my car since July 15, 1998, have 37,000 miles ------------------ |

You guys are Great! Truly appreciate the help! I am considering that one from onecatnodog. Colorado to MD is a long way, but maybe that is my only option beside paying for someont to haul it here which would probably cost an arm and leg. If the KONI's start leaking will the company replace and if so, how much would I be looking at and are they the only option for Shocks on this vehicle? If you guys know of other ones for Sale, please keep them coming! Tks Again! |

This one is my hands down favorite Prowler.... Don't know if Rick ever sold her, but in my opinion is in a class all by itself.... I never get tired of looking at this car... a work of art... http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/008584.html |

I agree with everyone that is advising you to stay away from this dealer. They sound like crooks to me. On the AD which they reneged on I would at the very least contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint against them. |

Are KONI's the only option for shocks for the Prowler? If not, what else can I put on it? If the KONI's start leaking will the company replace and if so, how much would I be looking at and are they the only option for Shocks on this vehicle? |

Koni's and General D'd are only ones. GD's aren't made any more, so Koni's only replacement. Haven't heard anyone having Koni's leak. Larry lord on here sells them, I think about $300 for set. This Prowler is priced a little high for this market, I would keep looking. |

my Koni's are 12 years old and good as new after 75,000 miles, issues with koni's are very rare...I haven't heard of other options to replace them... |

So GD shocks are my only option unless I can find KONI's correct? |
