Yep, you guessed it! Got my renewal statement today. Rate increase went up significantly! Last year it was $217.00/year for 35K stated value. This year they want $450.00 for the same coverage. I'll try and shop around for 6 months full coverage and 6 months storage and see how it compares. Cost Creep just never seems to slow down.

Sorry yours went up. It seems some have some haven't. I wonder what is causing the selected increases?

Those with exotics and/or newer models, are taking a large hit on premiums. The rest of us will see some mild increases..

Mine stayed the same for another year, but expect an increase next time. Still, I doubt I'll find a cheaper premium for the coverage I get on 2 cats and 1 snake, with agreed upon value of loss. jmo

My BJ policy on my Prowler went up $9 this year. My JC Taylor policy on my Corvair went up about $10 this year. My health ins went up about $50 a month or more, and my home owners went up almost $1000 this year. Gas prices are going up daily. Property values are climbing again here so I am sure my taxes will be going up. Everything is going up except my income.

Isn't it funny how when the property values plummeted, Proerty Taxes went UP?!? At least here in good ole Crook County, IL they did. And you are right, IF and when the values reverse here, then I can just imagine the speed at which taxes will rise - friggin nutz!

Now, why did your homeowners insurance go up by a grand? Major home improvements, flood insurance, what? That seems WAY out of line!

Actually it was MORE than a grand. No changes, but the value of the house increased by $100k and there was an increase in windstorm (hurricane) ins....Florida of course. I guess we're going to have bad hurricanes because of global warming. That's what they keep telling me.-

I checked around and and could not do any better. They told me all ins in FL went up. My bill is almost $4k and they told me that was very good.

The wind damage in Florida is probably citizens insurance...I had an Inspection done by them and they doubled my premium..when I saw the report it was like a different house..they denied all wrong doing...after much research I found out the governor had instituted new rules for wind damage, thus citizens took advantage...the new laws have been reversed by the state due to the large volume of calls...citizens attitude is " too bad, we can't reverse the premiums"
You and your agent need to file complaints with citizens..
As you know , and they know they , are the only insurer in the state for this coverage..
As far as bj, I have three cars with them and premiums have stayed the same for three years...it did go up last year but after a phone call, they returned it to original..underwriting error. They were very easy to help..

No, and no. Windstorm is part of my policy with Olympus. Seems most of my increase is due to the increase in dwelling value and associated increase in costs for personal property coverage calculated as a percentage of the value of the dwelling.

Citizens is the state run windstorm coverage of last resort when no other company will cover you. I have this down in the Keys as no other company will write down there. Not so bad for me as I have a well built home (superior roof truss strapping, metal roof, and hurricane shutters).

Sorry you are correct...I live on the intracoastal and they are my only choice...they do take advantage..my house was built 10 years ago with all the up to date construction, but they totally ignored the visible certifications

Thanks. And good luck....

$574 with Tennessee Farm Bureau. That is with 2 other cars on the same policy as well as my homeowners with them.
But I have to believe that TN has pretty low rates comparatively.
And that is with a perfect record.

Barrett-Jackson Insurance:

$647 for the entire year, 2 Prowlers and 1 Viper combined, total..

Agreed replacement value for the 3 = $125K

Can't beat that,,,I was paying $800 year for just the Viper, with $1000 deductible.

I received an email about a week after i got my notice of increase and it said that chartis had some underwriting rate changes so they had to increase my premium. They also sent a couple of quotes from american modern ins. of $680.00 and from hagerty 1,096.00 for the same policy.

B-J says,,,,they want you to drive them no more than 2,500 per year (each)............BUT,

If you are going to drive to a car show, automobile event, or car club event, the mileage limit is overlooked for that particular reason. They are flexible, and understanding.

B-J never has asked me the mileage on my cars from the initial start of coverage,,,,so they don't know what I drive them, but I'm well within the limit anyway.

Believe its on the honor system,,,,and I'm honest

I shopped around and B-J is still a better deal by about $30.00 /yr.; and the other company did not offer 'agreed to value'. So, like it or not you live with the increase, but you don't have to like it!

Well my drive to Vegas would be a year's worth and the drive back would be another year, plus the mileage while we are there.

I asked specific questions, most, if not all, by email so I could get the answers in writing. And I took and kept notes on what was said over the phone. There is a reason they don't ask mileage when you buy the insurance. If anything happens, then they look at the mileage. They then divide the mileage by the age of the car to get an average annual mileage. That's what they will go by. I also asked about traveling to an event, like our annuals across country where you may put more mileage than is typically allowed. She said that was ok and is why they don't really follow a specific mileage limit and are (at least were at the time) working to remove the mileage clause. They just don't want you using it as a daily driver. They also don't want you driving it to go to the grocery store, or to the mall to Christmas shop. I also asked about if your daily breaks down and you have to drive your prowler to work one day while your car is getting repaired. Again she said that was ok.
Say, you have a 2002. It's 10 years old. It has 50,000 miles on it. Thats 5000 miles average a year. That's pretty clear to them its not a daily driver. You just put about 3000 miles a year going to the annuals, then another 2000 the rest of the year around town on nice weekends for local gatherings.
In the same token, lets say it has 120,000 miles on it... 12,000 miles a year. Likely a daily driver. Maybe you bought it with high mileage. Maybe it WAS your daily driver for 10 years with State Farm, but now you change to BJ insurance. You no longer use it as your daily driver. You put 3000 miles on it going to events. Then it gets wrecked. They see the mileage and would most likely deny a claim. In a situation like this you would be wise to explain the mileage when you sign up with them to give them a start point. Or you may have to support your claim of attending events. Pictures of you at the events would help with this.
The point is, most of us don't have to worry about a claim with a high mileage car when averaged out. Each of us has to review our own situation and decide on how to best handle it.

No problem. Alot of people seem to shy away over the mileage issue and I felt it was misunderstood. I hope that cleared it up a little for many. Another thing I asked was is this a teaser rate to get our business then bump it up on renewal. She told me no. Premiums are low because the cars they insure are usually well taken care of and driven alot less than normal, so the chance of a claim is low.
She also said you know better than they what your car is worth. As long as its valued at under $250K, you don't need an appraisal. And if you own more than 1, since you can only drive 1 at a time, your liability coverage is only for 1 car - the one you are driving at the time.
Liability is billed separately from comprehensive, so you receive 2 bills on coverage. Don't let your smile get too big when you open the envelope and see $149. You'll get another for $427 following. And don't freak when you get one bill for one amount, then get "rebilled" for more. (You pay both amounts with 1 payment.)

I have our home and both cars insured by Travelers. The premium on the Prowler is $492 a year. On one hand I have no driving restrictions, however on the other hand I do not have an agreed value. Rates will vary by, driving record, state in which you reside and also your age etc.
