Been helping out driveSRT.com with a project on Prowler and as I was going through my many binders of info, I came across this and thought it would make interesting reading: Prowler Patent Portfolio No. DES. D355,397 Inventors: Kevin Verduyn design manager Biography The Plymouth Prowler is the first and only factory-built hot rod in history. After the success of the Viper, Daimler-Chrysler Prowler is the second concept in recent history to make it from the car show circuit to full production without losing its concept car flare. Chrysler designers worked on a street rod concept car at the Pacifica California facility during 1990. This design was reduced to a quarter of the original size clay model and displayed at a diorama competition hosted by Chrysler's Tom Tremont. Tim Anness "bobbed" the tail of the Prowler model in the last hours before the competition. The Prowler made the cut over 250 other entrants for new concept cars. Chrysler Chairman, Robert Lutz, attended the competition and was not only impressed with the design but he asked for more "attitude" in the style and he got it. In October 1992, Tom Gale, executive vice president of product development and design, unveiled a Prowler prototype at the Detroit Auto Show to test public reaction where it was confirmed that Chrysler was once again on the leading edge of automotive design. Late in 1995, Chrysler approved the Prowler for production and announced that it will be manufactured at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. By January 1997, the Prowler officially joined the ranks of a production car in its debut at Detroit's North American International Auto Show. A vehicle spawned from Chrysler's world-class design team, the Plymouth Prowler has proven to be a pivotal point in automotive history.

Did you know that 900 lbs of the original 2,780 pound roadster is aluminum, including body frame and suspension parts. This, of course, changed in 1999 when the aluminum engine was used in Prowler. The spring/shock assembly is mounted inboard and actuated by a pushrod-rocker mechanism. Did you know the Prowler is the first production car to use this assembly, although it has been featured on Indy cars? This message has been edited by CJ on 01-26-2012 at 09:12 PM |

CJ this is great news. I was speaking with Adam B from the SRT team and he mentioned they where interested in a prowler story. You have to be the best person in the world to help them out. Looks like they are building the SRT brand well. They currently have my Prowler and the 6.1 SRT Hemi build featured on the DriveSRT facebook page in a new special section called From what I heard team prowler coming together was an early kick off coming out of the viper and then became SRT is that right CJ? Thanks so much for putting it out there would be great to get the Prowler featured! This message has been edited by treyb on 01-29-2012 at 02:58 PM |

Treyb......lol! I wasn't going to say anything until it is finished......which shouldn't be too long now. They are working towards their deadline. Adam was very complimentary to you and was pleased to hear that I knew you!!! When the project is done, I'll post more information so that everyone will understand this project and be able to view it! They've been working very hard on it and I was pleased to be able to help them. In answer to your question..... There was Team Viper |
